I'm SO ecstatic right now! I'm sure you seasoned breeders can remember how EXCITED you were when you opened your incubator to find your first baby ever! I was so surprised! The funny thing is, I had a dream last that someone told me last night that my egg would hatch. How funny!

I was feeling pretty bummed about losing my first 3 clutches. The first egg laid looked awesome, was incubated at 86 degrees, but I was sure it wasn't going to hatch after is passed day 60. I changed my incubation medium, lowered my temps to 82, and gave up. I kept the egg in the incubator because everyone always says incubate until moldy and smelly. And on day 75, it hatched!

So here is my first EVER hatchling, and I could not be happier. He/she is from a rainwater albino eclipse (firewater genes) x Sykes line super hypo tangerine het eclipse.

And I hit those 50% odds, he/she is a beautiful little tangerine eclipse het rainwater albino!

Since he/she incubated for 75 days, does that mean he/she is likely female? Or does that not matter?

And the parents:
The female, super hypo tang (sykes line) het eclipse:

The male, rainwater albino eclipse (firewater lines)

Cool what temp did you incubate at for the first three weeks that is what determines sex. Really cool buy the way

Incubated at 85-86 for mixed. Looking back, I'm not really sure why I did mixed. =/ I'm incubating the fourth clutch and clutches after it for females.

I go off the temperature displayed on my Herpstat. Soo... $150 device, I would hope it's accurate. I don't know why it took so long. If it means anything, it was incubated in the same conditions that killed the other five eggs. Maybe it had some trouble surviving, but managed to recover when I put it in better conditions but took longer to develop because of it?

Very cool! Your experience does remind me of my first eggs. I still anxiously check my incubator several times a day...it does not get old.

Congrats! The first one is super exciting! I can't wait to see how the little cutie turns out as well! [emoji3]

This year has been weird for hatchlings for a lot of people. I've heard about a lot of preemies and a few going long. Also, a lot of females ovulating really young, and some of those laying duds. Weird year. [emoji53]

The little guy is eating on his own now. I was worried for a minute. Yesterday, I poked a worm in his face until he hissed and I put in his mouth and he ate it. Today he will take the worms from tongs by himself, but won't eat them off the ground or in a bowl. But he took 5 small, dusted worms just now, so I feel a lot better now. He looks brighter orange after his shed. I really like him. =D
