Well, I was actually able to save up a little money, planned on using it towards Abbie's surgery.

I knew I had to have my Anti-freeze changed, so I went to Jiffy Lube yesterday, thinking it would be about $70, BUUUUT NOOOOOO they tell me that my antifreeze is way too hot, it shouldn't be that hot. So, they say it may be the thermostat (which wouldn't be too bad), or it could be the fan (Still wouldn't be too bad), OR, it could be the radiator... which will cost me $$$$. With my luck, it will be the radiator, because, I am pretty sure the radiator has been leaking anyway. I didn't think it was the radiator until yesterday, because until yesterday, I thought all antifreeze was green, the stuff my car was leaking was a dark color, and I knew my air conditioner was leaking so I just thought that was what I was seeing, now, I know different, my antifreeze is brown, so that is the fluid I was seeing:shout:

AND, because I have a Saturn, I am sure the radiator is going to cost more that most cars, because Saturn LOVES to make their parts special order from the dealer!!!! :main_angry:

OH JOY!!!!!!

That sucks Jeanne! I would definitely get a second opinion, preferably from a Saturn dealer--just don't tell them what Jiffy told you.

...but I've never ever heard of brown antifreeze.

I asked someone at work, and the antifreeze is brown, well tan or goldish color. Its special to GM cars I guess. The guy at Jiffy Lube was really nice about it, they even filled up my radiator with the antifreeze for free :)

I am going to bring my car to my regular mechanic, he is a little more expensive but, he is honest.

I'd try having it flushed and try some "Stop Leak" before having the mechanic replace the radiator. It will save up some money for now, providing the leak is not too bad. You'll eventually have to have it repaired/replaced, but this way you don't have to tap into Abbie's surgery fund right now.

I will have to ask about that :)

Stop Leak is a little container of small balls of metal that are just poured into the radiator, they melt and fill the hole to "Stop Leak", and you can buy it at most auto part stores for only a few dollars. I would not mention this to your mechanic, just put it in the radiator, run the engine for as long as it says on the container, then have your guy flush it with new antifreeze/coolant.

Hey Jeanne, I know plenty of people who have poured pepper in their radiators and it stops leaks, sounds funny and kinda rednecky I know, but it works, I have seen it a couple of times. My brother in law did it to my father in laws truck probably 6 to 8 months ago, still no problems and no more leaks.

I'm guessing the pepper clumps up and clogs the hole. just a guess though.
