I bought Jackie for my 9 yr old daughter the weekend after Thanksgiving...he's my avatar. He is now over 8 inches and I THINK 9 inches long!!! How much bigger will he get? Not that I am complaining, but he keeps getting longer! I need to get a scale so I can weigh him...he's quite the chunky little boy lately...

Here's some pics...

Check out the smiley face he has between his hind legs!!!

Here is a head shot with his torch, "E" marking...it is breaking up a little bit, but the majority is still there...

Another body shot...

I need to try to get some pics that show his size better...

Thanks for looking and letting me share!

He looks like a nice healthy boy. Unless he's got giant genes then I'd say he's prob around the average for length. All my adults are between 8-10 inches long except my one guy is a little longer.

So 10 inches is the upper limit? Okay, for some reason I thought it was 8 inches and when he went over I was beginning to wonder...Thank you! At what age do they stop getting longer? If he is only 5 to 6 months old, will he continue to get longer until 12 months? Or will he level off soon?

Thanks!

I can't speak for full size, but he makes Hidey look like a wimp! What's he eating?

Thanks moosassah!

He is currently eating large crickets...anywhere from 4 to 10 per night. And he always has a bowlful of mealworms to snack on (I leave some gutload and a slice of carrot in with the mealies so they are always gutloaded). He does not eat a day prior to shedding and about 3 days after. He had been eating superworms, but isn't any more. He also had a few horn worms when I bought some at the last reptile show. He didn't eat them in front of me and he didn't eat all of them before they got too big. I had to throw most of them away. I am using gutload from cricketfood.com for the mealworms and crickets. Plus carrots for moisture. Hehas a routine...when I open his tank at night and remove his hide he knows it's supper time. I dust the crickets and drop them in one at a time; when he eats it he gets another, etc. If he doesn't eat one I stop and check later; they are usually gone. I hope to order some other feeders from mulberryfarms.com.

spykerherps,

He doesn't usually eat his mealies unless I don't get there soon enough to feed him his crickets. <grin> They are more of a backup because he is on an anti-mealie diet currently. He wants crickets right now, before it was superworms, etc. If he is about to shed or has just shed he doesn't eat, but I am not worried...he certainly won't starve in a few days! I think most of his weight gain is due to the gutloaded crickets and mealies...the gutload seems to be the key to his KINGLINESS!!!!

Thanks for your reply!

That's about the same kind of diet Hidey's on. Except the supers & horns. I'm doing the same thing at night with crickets. Honestly it's fun having only 1 gecko (until Saturday) & getting to pay extra special attention to them :)

Is this the reptile show weekend? Ours is next weekend...we love to go and look! Jackie is always the first one I take care of...he is our first leo and he and I share a special bond. I am bonded to all of three of them for different reasons...I LOVE them all!

Males tend to grow in length faster than females, so he just shot right up there!

He also looks great!!! What on earth are you feeding him? LOL

Thank you!! He's getting gutloaded mealworms and large crickets...nothing special! I have been using cricketfood.com gutload and it seems to work pretty well...grin. He seems to eat a few crickets for a couple days, then he will eat more 5+. I've learned to offer one at a time until he quits hunting. He has mealies available 24/7, which he has been eating a few. Maybe he's so big because he waits until the crickets walk in front of him and then he grabs them! He does still hunt them, too, and he still wiggles the tip of his tail on occassion! I just LOVE it when he twitches! It's soooo CUTE!

I didn't know that male grow faster than females! Thanks for the tip!
