wow,

to day i went to the anti-cruelty society to do some service hours for school. a place that i thought actually needed my help? let me start from the beggining yesterday i drove to chicago ridge to a humane society, all they told me was that i was allowed to do my hours there and that i had to be there at 11am right. the next day came along and i went to the humane society. i went in side and asked 4 the day manager, they made me wait about 20 min in the lobby, (by that time my ride back home had left thinking that i was working) finally the day manager came out and spoke to me and the first thing he old told me was that i was not allowed to work there because i had shorts on. next he went on to tell me that there was a volunteer fee which he said was about 25$( i thought to my self that i am going to basically work for free and i still have to pay them). i said something that i probbaly should not said and i walked out the front door. then i realized that i needed there phone so i could call my ride back but i could not go back inside the place. so i had to walk basically a hour and a half to my sister place. BOY WAS I MAD

WOW that is a pretty messed up story!! Sorry to hear that you had such a bad day, I've had similar experiences when I was stranded due to specific events and had to walk for an hour and a half to get back to where I needed to be.. it's not fun to say the very least.

I would have been pretty upset about having to pay money just to do some volunteer work too!! I have never heard of anything like that, and it's definitely a disappointment coming from such a place.

Hope better days come your way asap, take care!

What…Really…A volunteer fee? Are you paying for the privilege to work there? And why do you have to wear pants, did they say why? That is just all a little bit ridiculous to me.

That sounds so ludicrous... to have to pay a volunteer fee. No wonder they need volunteers.

That's strange. My ten year old daughter works at the humane society once a month. She didn't pay, but she had to take a class before she could help.

A lot of places out here actually do charge a small volunteer fee, but it's typically for the shirt or whatever they give you. Animal places differ on the shorts thing. It mainly because of rules and worry about you getting shredded up by stuff.

I have been to that shelter when I lived in Chicago Ridge
I had a few cats neutered there for a minimal fee

I used to know the woman that ran the place years ago

It sounds as if things have changed a lot since then

Sorry to hear about your bad experience
and I hope that things work out for you to get your hours in somewhere
