Ok I just adopted this BD from some family friends that bought it for their children and of course they lost interest. I am told he is 1 year old.
He appears to very healthy (although I do not know dragons).
The tank came with him and I would say 45-50 gallons? I might measure and figure it out later, nonetheless I am not satisfied with size and if this dragon grows anymore which im sure he will this tank will soon be in adequate.
Im not sure of his weight or length yet, I have only had him 3 days and moved hm out of his tank for a cleaning. The tank when I got it had repti carpet(nasty) and one little log for light climbing.

To give you an idea of his size that stone he is sitting on is 12" long
I am using 3 lights tell me how this sounds. The light closet to us is a 26w 10.0 uvb cfl producing little to no heat. The light in the back left is a 100 watt basking uva heating stone level to 98,99f the light to the right back is a 100 watt red spot light making the temp at floor level there in the mid 80's
These two (bright) lights are on the same timer giving 14 hours (6am-8pm)
once those pop off the temp in the cage is somewhere in the low to mid 80's.
(The red light is on 24h)
I have a UTH but don't think I have a need for it...

I have always thought reptiles don't see red light, but reading into BD's I have been seeing a lot of info some I know is good and some I question. So please clear this up for me.Can BD's see the color red?

Are these BD pellets worth my time or money? Or should I just stick to the grocery store?

Thank you all for reading in any info on my tank/light setup would be nice.
Also should I add more climbing for him?

Edit: I call it a he even tho I am not sure, I will sex after he settles in for a week or however long it takes. It looks like a guy right

He does look quite small for a year old. With the proper care/nutrition, there is a chance he can do some catching up. As for the temps & lighting... You'll want his basking site anywhere from 100-105 with the opposite side of the enclosure 80-85. You definitely should replace that coil bulb. Coil bulbs are bad bulbs and can cause some serious damage to the eyes. I would recommend either a MVB (MegaRay) bulb which provides proper UV source, as well as heat or a Reptisun 10.0 strip. www.reptileuv.com is a great source to learn about the quality of various UV sources for beardies. I also would get rid of the red light. Beardies needs clean bright white light to help their pupils properly dilate when using a high output of UV source. Some people use the red bulbs for night heat. This is unnecessary unless your temps fall below 60. They also need uninterrupted sleep and the blue or red bulbs can disturb that. Heat emitters would work better for providing supplement night heat, if necessary.

I think your setup for climbs & furniture is fine. A simple cage is easier to keep clean. I've never been able to get any of my beardies to eat BD pellets. You can try but I would not use them as a replacement for fresh greens... only a supplement.

Aside from all of that... congrats on the new beardie! Enjoy him :)

Ok I have removed the red light. and will after reading that report remove the 26w cfl. Now with that said I still have the exo-terra 100w daylight spot. Is this light still to bright? I probably need to get a 150w anyways. to reach better temps.

The report talked about compact 10.0 uvb like mine only it mentioned several brands exo-terra not being one....

Do you have additional light to the basking light? if so what do you recommend? With just my basking light the rest of the tank is poorly lit. I guess that would not be a problem if I moved to a 150w and pushed it a little further away.

Does the basking light alone(the right one anyways) provide enough of the right uv rays?

Sorry for all the question Thanks for your guidance yet far.

As far the pellets go I put some in the tank after wetting and mashing(directions) he has not touched them. Don't worry though he has been eating a variety of greens and some fruits.

He seems to be adjusting well and he cracks me up when he sleeps in the funniest spot.

Oh good you removed the coil & red light. The exo-terra 100w daylight spot, I believe only provides UVA rays. Your beardie will need to have a UVB source. There are two different types... flourescent tube or MVB. The flourescent tube type will not generate additional heat and will need to be used in addition to a basking spot light like the exo-terra 100w daylight you already have. The MVB lights generate both heat and the necessary UVA/UVB light sources. With the MVB, you can hang with a dome and clamp like you already have. For the fluorescent type, I would highly recommend a Reptisun 10.0. You would need to obtain a separate hood feature to hang a tube. For the MVB type, I would recommend a Mega Ray. If using a flourescent tube, it should span 2/3rds the length of the cage with an additional heat source in the corner where his basking spot is.

As far as food is concerned, at one years of age, your beardie's diet needs to consist of 80% protein (live feeders) and 20% greens. When he becomes an adult (18 mos), the percentages should be flipped with greens being his primary. Right now, he has some catching up to do so you'll need to provide him with lots of protein. Have you been giving him any feeders (crickets, hornworms, silkworms, roaches, etc.)? Also, any calcium and multivitamin supplements?

Below is a link to a caresheet that I put together...

Hope this makes sense to you. I'm still working on my first cup of coffee this morning :).

Glad that he is adjusting! They are super cute & personable. Mine all sleep in different positions too. I have a few that have a hard time falling asleep without without their blankie :).
