I use terrarium liner and artificial moss for the ground level of my crested gecko enclosures. At very least, you can always get away with paper towels with moss spread on it. Paper towels makes cleaning easy and the artificial moss is chemical parasite and bug free and is very absorbent so it will soak up water from mistings and slowly release humidity into the air. Gimme 5 min and ill tell you exactly which moss I use (forgot off the top of my head).

I use Zilla's Lizard Litter Terrarium Moss. The exact one I use is Beaked Moss.
Oh and just a correction to my previous post; its not artificial, but is completely safe.
