Just to clarify... *Update*

Hi everyone,

As some of you may remember i purchased my first two leopard gecko's a month ago. (Their pics will be on the first post i made on here).

I posted not long after querying what a normal poop should look like as i was concerned about the one.

After leaving it a couple of weeks to see if it was stress i decided i didn't want to wait any longer just in case it was something more sinister. So she went to the vets Tuesday.

It wasn't cheap but at least the x-rays were clear, bone density was very good. The faecal sample i took with me was tested for worms and eggs, which was negative. I'm just awaiting the results of a more thorough faecal test which will also check for Crypto...

So all in all it looks as if she is okay so far and it may just be getting used to her new environment. Which is understandable as she is 2 years old, my set up is completely different to what she had and she has the proper heat sources and moist hides now etc.

My question is, which may sound a little daft, if she is pooping must she be eating?

She has just done a solid motion. It was still a tad pale brown/green but it was firm! :main_robin:

I'm just worried now that as i've had her a month she still hasn't eaten that i've seen? She weighs 45g....

If anyone could help ease my concerns i would be very grateful,

Thanks so much,
Lill.

Ps - the other female is pooping fine and i've witnessed her eating!

Update : Unfortunately after all efforts, my Hypo female 'Honey' passed away not long ago.

I'm really upset and gutted about it.

Since visiting the vets i tried everything, from slurry to revitalise etc. I guess what's meant to be, will be.

Thank you to everyone who posted there help over the past 5 weeks of me owning her.

45g does seem pretty small and light for an 2 year old, does she have a regrown tail? or is it the original cuz a good percentage of weight is in the tail so im just wondering. If not, then thta weight is quite low.

if all her tests come back healthy then, you may wanna try different feeders or different feeding method to try and get her eating.

or what i like to do to see if they are eating is put a dish of like 10 mealworms in (or another easy number) ... and then just count them in the morning or the next day, see if theyve eaten any. its an easy way to keep track.

I went back to look at the picture of your 2 geckos, both look healthy to me - nice chubby body shape. It may take a while for an adult gecko to settle in a new environment and resume eating normally. The last time I bought an adult girl and it took her almost 3 months to eat; but besides settling in, she was also ovulating. Since yours is 2 years old, perhaps you can check her belly if she is also ovulating? Just look for a pink spot in the middle of her belly.

Its good of you that you're concerned enough to take her for a thorough vet exam, shows that you're a good owner!

If temperatures and settings are correct, just lower the activity level around their enclosure. You may also put some cardboard or towel to cover their tank so they have more privacy. Leave a bowl of crickets (without jump legs) or mealworms in their tank overnight, see if she'll watch when no one's watching.

p.s. the light brown poop could be from her shed.
