Is it normal that my gecko really never comes out during the day? He does while hes eating but he makes his way back into his hide afterwards. I catch him out sometimes at night but I don't see him often during the day. He's very friendly and healthy, he just doesn't really walk around alot.

Leopard geckos are nocturnal, meaning they sleep during the day and are awake at night. Much like an owl.

We are diurnal meaning we are awake during the day and asleep during the night.

So, yes it’s normal.

Actually they are crepuscular animals meaning they are mainly active during dusk and dawn, but yes it is normal to not see them active during the day.

I know that leopard geckos are more active at night but Leopold is active throughout the whole day and night. He roams around all the time and then takes naps every so often. He does take more naps during the day though.

LOL.. Your avatar made me jump :p

Mine sleep all day. I have only seen them exploring around and climbing stuff late at night.

Above heat is fine but use a moonlight. I use a red one and my gecko is happy. She's gotten in this odd habit though that she likes to hunt crickets while the basement lights are on and not off.

Mine is active during the day time if i take him out, Normally tho he will rest in his hide until late, around 12am he likes to come out. On a side note i use an UTH all times using a temp. regulator i leave it set on low. For night time - i use the red bulb its great for observing him hunt - max red bulb on for an hr since it heats the tank up quick.

no, in order to acheive the temps in my tank i need a light. maybe a infared would be better, but i do need it for the heat

Using a 75W bulb during daytime is absolutely fine, as long as you provided enough hides and shelters for your gecko. Commercial reptile infrared lights aren't true infrared, they produce visible red lights. So your gecko will see everything in red like we do under these lights.

UTH is the best way to provide belly heat; if your UTH is not warming enough, put some insulating material beneath it to force all the heat to go upwards. ;)

p.s. I used to use red lights, but not anymore as it is unnatural for them to see everything in red. I'm now using dim white led for viewing purposes.
