Juvenile stopped eating

hello everyone. I have a small juvenile named Beazley. I picked him up from Mike Rekowski at repticon two weeks ago. He weighed 4.1g and mike said he was about 2-3 weeks old.

Beazley started eating like a monster on the second day. he ate 6-8 mealies a day for the first week. He also pooped like a champ. No issues until about 7 days ago. I saw him vomit up a black/brown thing which im guessing was an old shedding or something. He didnt seem too upset, later that day i fed him two mealies which he ate with excitement but then vomited whole about an hour later.

He has not eaten in 5 days now. He sees the mealies but chooses not to eat them. 2 days ago he vomited a completely white shed ball. He continued to poop normal poops until about 3 days ago. He is now producing urates only. The urates look normal. He stays hydrated by drinking the water from the walls of his wet hide.

I think i may know what his problem is but i want to know if my diagnosis makes sense to you all. about two days before he started acting up i switched out his paper towels. The new paper towels i used are very soft and i noticed they have a slight vinegar like odor. These arent standard paper towels, unfortunately i dont remember the brand.

I didn't think about how this odor might bother him. A 57g male which i switched to the same paper towels became very restless. digging the paper towels up and moving his plastic hide around the tank. This is what knocked the sense into me that the paper towels were making them sick.

I immediately removed the offending paper towels and replaced them with standard cheapo paper towels. The adult is now peacefull and has stopped renovating his home. I think the odor from the paper towel was upsetting Beazley's stomach.

Beazley looks healthy and has gained 1.3g as of the 27th. He still wont eat but i hope he will feel better soon. I'm going to buy some crickets (and maybe some waxworms) tomorrow to see if he wants them.

What does everyone think? Thank you if you read this all the way through.

I think anything is possible esp. if you were able to smell something offensive coming off the paper towels. If you could take a minute to fill out this care questionaire we would have a better picture of how yuo keep your herp and see if there's anything that could be causing his eating troubles.

it's very possible the new paper towels were an irritant. The real soft ones, like viva, also have a lot of lint particles. Plain cheap paper towels have had the least processing and are very well suited for animal use. Some tank decor has been noted as having an off smell, something else to avoid. Also, the baby is more vulnerable to any type irritant than the adult, so it would have more of an effect on him. Mike has good gex, I've never had the first health issue with any from him. Once he recovers from the tummy aches, he'll start eating again. Should be within a few days. If not, I would urge you to make some of the gecko soup slurry mix and begin giving him some nutrients that way. He's so small that he can't go long without eating.

Thank You fl_orchidslave and Dog Shrink. I bought beazley some baby crickets and he loved them. I let him eat five today. I'll let him digest those for the night and feed him again tomorrow evening.

I've been lazy with sharing pictures of my geckos so here is a picture of Beazley on the day of purchase. Cute right?

I dont know about your older male digging out the paper towels and moving hides around the enclosure because he was sick of it but my male has been doing that for a while and he seems fine, he's 61 grams and about 11 months old, and never vomited anything.
