Keeping Superworms

So I went to Pet Co today to get some supers. I was planning on only getting 25, but they didn't have any of that size left so I had to get 50. Is this container big enough for 50 (it's 4" square and filled with about 1.5" of oats)? Do I need to fill it with more oats?

Also, how long will they live? I think 50 would officially last me 3 to 4 weeks...will they live that long?

They will surely live 3-4 weeks as long as they get the food they need. It would not hurt to add more, but it looks fine.

I just ordered 500 from Grubco. Very cheap and great service. Should last a while if givin plenty of carrots or potatos.

Good luck

I think using a grinder to grind the oats down to a powder would be better and getting a pound of chicken layer if you have a feed store that sells by the pound and grind it to a powder and providing them with plenty of veggies would be your best choice. I order 3000 that lasts about 1-2 months for me with 60 leos with minimal worms dying. i keep them in wheat bran, grinded chicken layer, bran cereal, oats, and vitamins&calcium, and i give them plenty of veggies.

I order them 1000 at a time and even went to the troble of breeding them for awhile .. when my bearded dragons brumate in the fall I fed my cntainer of worms all through the winter and they survived just fine. Come spring when my dragons woke up I was able to feed them all before any died. Only time Ive ever really seen dead ones is if you don't keep up the moisture, they will then eat each other! I keep all my worms and breeding colonies on oat and bran and feed them carrots, celery, potato, apple, what ever .. just make sure you change the food out on a regular basis. The more 'wet' food like apples tent to make your substrate go moldy quick and that will kill them off and make them unhealthy to feed to your herps anyway.
