This published information about wax worms
not eating is false.
I have been testing "longevity" for wax worms
most of 3 years.
They eat...they will gut load...they will stay
alive longer if you disregard that untruth.
They come in wood shavings, I mix a equal
part of layer hen crumbles.
Refrigerate between 55 to 60 degrees.
Most regular fridge areas are too cold.
As doing with meal worms, remove once
a week and add orange peel or
carrot.(my choices)
24 hours out....remove all moisture items.
Back into 55 -- 60 fridge.
fridge at that temp supplies all the moisture
they need.
I feed 500 a month along with meal and
super worms and hardly ever lose a wax worm.
Makes them a healthier snicker bar .:D
Take care. HJ

Great info, thanks for sharing. I never tried feeding pet store waxworms, now I breed my own and feed fresh from the culture.

Hi Tony.
I raised them for awhile and fed that way.
Raised on Bran and honey mix.
I was under the impression from printed
materials that adult worms did not eat.
Assuming all I read from others on how
wax worms were as evil as rotting your
teeth by eating too many snickers bars.
That they would get "hooked" on sugar
and not eat their vegetables.
After trying to figure how an adult was
identified I (as usual) decided to ignore
written materials and find out.
Just sending what I feel is a good analysis
of what adds to the contents of the much
loved gecko treat worm.
Take care. Hj

Thanks if I would have known this before I would have bought more but so many of them usually die because I thought they didn't eat anything that wasn't sweet. These didn't come with any wood shavings but I'll see what I can find to put in there.

I to have pushed away some wax worm myths. That entire feed one wax worm a month before they get addicted is garbage because I feed a few everyday especially to my little Marley after he's had a few Roaches because they're soft, slow and easy to catch unlike supers and I'm not a fan of mealworms either. And I don't see him shaking in the corner from wax worm withdrawals, lol.

Put I don't have chicken feed nor do I know wear to get some living in NYC, lol. I have Progeckos gutload and a little bit of wheat bran.

Hey, if looking for a substitute....
try to find a course grain or ??
Suggestion:
Dry cat food is high in protein.
Some course cereals as Post Grape Nuts.
I sometimes mix my cat food in.
The mix with the wood shavings just
adds to aeration since fine grains
tend to get clumping from fridge
humidity. If storing in a deep enough
container..(stop escapees)
I leave the lid off part of the time.
Take care. HJ
