Does anyone else keep koi? Right now in my pond I have a female doitsu sanke (doistu is the lack of scales except for large ones on the sidesand top of the koi), a possible female butterfly showa. My friend has a TON of koi and we are planning to breed them fairly soon, as my doistu sanke has finally reached breeding age. She has blue eyes, which is incredibly rare on any koi, let alone a sanke. I'm not trying to brag (well maybe ), but she has absolutely PERFECT coloration for a sanke! She is definitely show-quality, her colors are super bright and they don't fade into her white, she has barely any color in her fins, a beautiful, interesting pattern, no messy scales (its a major flaw if a doistu if it has messy shoulder scales) and her pretty blue eyes, are show-quality (yes they have koi shows, too LOL). Can you believe I got her from a pet store? My showa's nothing special, but he\she is still pretty. Here they are (These pic are SO old, they are bigger and the doistu sanke now has much better pattern):

I don't know a thing about koi, except that they are beautiful fish. Yours are lovely! Do you have a "koi pond" outside for them?

Yes i do have a outdoor koi pond. There fun to keep. Like reptiles, they have a ton of different "morphs". There is thirteen types (Kohaku, sanke, showa, bekko, utsuri, asagi, shusui, goromo, kawarimono, hikarimono, hikari-utsuri, hikarimoyo mono, tancho, , and each of those types have about ten different types.

Im guessing these Koi are Japanese? Im normally not as interested in fish because i prefer animals that i am able to interact with more which is why I got into lizards and rats but these Fish are beautiful! Keep us updated and when you breed the Koi make sure to get photos of the eggs!

thanks everyone! Well, they originate from Japan but i got mine locally (i have no idea whether they imported them or not). And dont worry, I will take a lot of pics!! And speaking of interacting, if your koi is tame they like to be pet! heres a random video of someone petting their koi:
