I did a search and didn't find anyone else using these containers as hides so i figured i share my idea with everyone. My geckos seem to love them and with one of these Kool-Aid containers you get two hides that fit an average sized adult gecko and one that will work for a juvie. Also the grocery store has larger containers of the same shape that would probably work great for and giant or just over average sized adults. Here is a picture of the container I used.
After removing the label the container looked like this.
Then i simply cut around the seam with an exacto knife to make the main part of the container into two pieces. Also after cutting i felt around the cut edges for and sharp points and dulled the down using the exacto knife.
*NOTE: When cutting the bottom of the container be extra careful not to slip and cut yourself as the plastic is much thicker on the bottom and therefore a little tougher to slice through.
I also make a cutout in the lid of the container and that is the smaller of the three hides. Here are some pictures of the finished products.
And here is one of my Ember enjoying the hide!
Here is another of one of my younger geckos near the lid hide for size comparison.
I'd like to know everyones opinion on these hides. They have been working great for me in my 16qt tubs as they don't take up a ton of space and allow more room for the geckos to roam around, and personally i think they look pretty good compared to something like a butter container or similar.
