Lay box part 2

We are having some issues with our lay box/ moist hide. We've had it for several months and have never had a problem before. Inside is sphagnum moss and lately it has been growing mold/ fungus. Our gecko wont go in there and she's so pregnant, she'll lay eggs any day now. I've tried putting new moss in and it keeps happening. Tonight I took the moss out and replaced it with a wet paper towel. Can she lay her eggs on this? She's first time mom and we are new to breeding. Is there a better substrate for the lay box that wouldn't get moldy as easily?? The box is half on the warm side and half on the cold side. Please help!!

Here is the original post, although its not directly related.

try a completely new box with new moss. paper towels should work, because she'll probably see it as the best place in the enclosure.

one problem is that the hide box is half on the warm side and half on the cool side...you'll need it to be on the warm side at all times so that it becomes humid...try moving the box and replacing the moss
