I refuse to watch it, it's an abomination to the book series. I stopped watching after they screwed up the Denna episode, which I had been waiting for.

The books started good...then crashed and burned (in my opinion). When I heard they were making a TV show I wasn't sure what to think.

Ditto. It's really bad. I was so excited about the series too. :main_angry:

And actually, the Denna episode was what got me interested, I didn't watch before that..

I guess it's good I haven't read the books! Once the TV series is over, I will get them to read :main_yes:

Just about everything is wrong right down to the casting IMO. For one Kahlan in the books is the Mother Confessor and the only confessor left at all. She is also know from almost the first page by her waist long thick hair (since confessors can't cut their hair without pain) and her striking green eyes. In fact, her eyes are what draws Richard to her in the first place. That was one of the biggest things that struck me right off. Like..is it that hard to cast people that look like they should when the spirit of the story hinges on certain facts?

Basically they got everything wrong and the actual episodes are only loosely based on any of the books if at all. There are a few episodes that have nothing to do with the books.

The books are great although he did try and draw out the story in the last couple but all in all an excellent series to read.

If I had never read the books I probably would have liked the show.

I absolutely love the books and am on Naked Empire at the moment, the tv series nearly ruined it for me. Especially the Richard that isn't a Richard. It's just bad, I really dislike it. I prefer the books and think the series should have never been touched. And all the slow-fighting scenes were getting annoying, sure, Terry Goodkind takes the time to explain the battles in full-detail as if it's in slow movement, but does every battle scene in the series need to be shot ala matrix?

As to why I disliked the Denna episode, while I kinda liked who they picked for Denna (Aside from the fact that Denna looks more like Cara than Denna) was the addition of another confessor. As Alliemac said, Kahlan is the ONLY confessor left in the book series and is also known as the Mother Confessor which makes her /the/ most important person alive in the world. Her rank makes her higher than even queens and kings. It was just one of the many things that just finally put the final nail in the coffin in my opinion.

There's just so many things about the tv series that I dislike and if I went on about every little thing, it'd be an aweful large list. I'll stick to the book series, it's good :). It'd probably be best to watch the tv series without reading the books first.

Thank you for your comments everyone, like I said, I'm just glad I haven't read the books yet lol because I am really enjoying the tv series.

I don't think I would have been too upset about Kahlan having somewhat shorter hair (her hair is pretty long, just not down to the wasit) or green eyes (they're two different colors, one green and one blue on the tv show)

Books and TV shows/movies based upon them are more likely to be very different from the book than to be spot on.. I can only think of maybe one movie that stuck along with the book in a good way. So honestly, in my opinion, it's pretty common for any book to be much better than any other remake made for TV.. it's really not a surprise to find that this one isn't any different. It would be more refreshing to have someone actually take a book or series and make a movie that goes along with it (and sorry if Twilight is like this, I don't follow that series) and accents the book.. but unfortunately directors like to add their own little extras instead of sticking closer to the original.

I am very excited to read the books when the TV show is over, at least I will be in for a treat :)

I started watching the show not knowing it was based on the books and had a total geek-out moment when they called Kahlan 'Confessor' - I was gaping at the screen going OMFG- did they just say... !!! (And then I started squeeing... but let's not talk about that lol)

And the Deena episode... I winced quite a lot, but it wasn't something I wasn't expecting them to kill a little bit, but then she's alive again or something? WTF? Her death was really meaningful and that whole relationship was about the true powers of the Sword of Truth and why previous Seekers had all gone nuts, which is a huge part in the later story. And then Kahlan isn't the Mother Confessor? Some dried up bimbo is, who gets killed so easily?!? No way, they just turned the powerful female character into a follower and killed her awesomeness even more than they already had. At that point I just couldn't take it anymore.

As a side note- I stopped reading the books, too, after Richard goes and becomes a sculptor in this previously unknown land and then the next book is following around some retard (literally) and some magicless, useless girl. I'm trying to gather the energy to read the last couple, but this TV show killed my enthusiasm hard core.

I have to agree. The TV show hadn't been made yet when I got to that book but it went waaay downhill after there. The first few books - excellent. I would definitely recommend them. But the last..I don't know, five-ish books? Painful. Just..painful. :main_thumbsdown:

Due to this thread I went on Hulu and watched a few of the episodes and all I can say is OUCH. They completely destroyed what made the storyline of the first book so good. And that guy they chose as Richard....terrible.

Kahlan is the mother confessor, just not from the very beginning

And books are always different and better.. no matter what movie or tv show that was made for it. I really like the actor they picked for Richard, he's a cutie :)

I call Richard: The Richard that isn't a Richard (a line referencing the third book XD. The chicken that's not a chicken). One, he looks /nothing/ like Richard. I always pictured this huge, tall, bulky beast of a man. Not the little pansy they portray him to be on the tv series. I still have a hard time picturing like I used to before I started watching the series.

I enjoy the series, yes, since the last few books I've had a harder time actually picking them back up to read them again, they've just gotten slower and slower and a little more boring. I really liked the first few books, but I intend to finish the series because I enjoy reading it.

But the Denna episode killed the series for me. I had been waiting to see Denna on the screen, huge disappointment.

But see in the books Kahlan IS the mother confessor, it's her spirit, her life, her job, her destiny. It's not jsut a title it's who she is inside. Everyone in the midlands knows her by sight and she brings hope of salvation where ever she goes. The people of the midlands are her children and she their mother. She is hope, peace, family, beauty, and love incarnate in one person. That is a far cry from them knocking off the pathetic group of confessors in the woods and her becoming mother by default.

I get that you like the show but it's hard for those that love these characters to see them completely destroyed when many were really looking forward to this series. I guess all I can say is don't read the books until it's done! lol I'm not reading the Dexter series or the True Blood series until those series are done so I don't ruin the show for myself.

I agree with Allie, I also didn't like that they were bringing elements from other books into the first series....Rada'han...sisters of the light...what's next, Jagnag's going to be running around with Darken Rhal skipping happily together and singing jolly songs? I didn't like that Listener episode, or all the people who have magic abilities like that map maker. There was really nothing like that in the books. The only people who had magic were Wizards, Sisters of the Light, or Sorceresses (not counting magical beings like Khalan).

And we never saw the mud people. I was really looking forward to seeing the mud people. Just meh.
