The situation: I have a leopard gecko male and he is not eating for a several month. The reason of it is that the gecko escaped almost half a year ago and I could not find him until he showed up himself. The gecko is eating actually from time to time, but only after two-tree days of forced feeding. He must be a year old tomorrow and is looking like 4-5 mouth old. He is terribly skinny and can hardly move. I have 12 leos, had different problems with them, but I can't handle this one. He is not eating, not growing, but still shedding, drinking water and moving in terrarium from warm to cold areas. His eyes are half-closed.
Forced feeding was with Ringer Lock solution, entrails of superworm and meelworm, carsil, calcium lactate, vit D3 (water solution).
What will you suggest? His weight is about 9-11 grams
Don't suggest me to see a vet:) - reptile vets in our country is not common thing...

wow - 1 year and only 9-11 grams?

Something is very wrong.. it sounds like he picked up something during the escape. The force feedings are only working after 2nd or 3rd attempt..

I'm really at a bit of a loss if you can't get him to a vet, and that may be why no one has replied as of yet.

sadly, the only thing i can reccomend is a fecal exam. whether by a vet or by a friend with a microscope and some fecasol.

Good luck.. :(

I had a VERY sick female and she was 19g when she was her sickest and she looked like something out of a horror movie - She was so weak that she could not lift her own head or open her mouth and I force-fed and medicated her for 2 month and 80% of the time I was convinced that I was gonna loose her.

Here she is today :

You REALLY need to take him to the vet for some tests.

What medications did you use? And what was the constituents of the feeding? Did you feed your gecko every day once, or several times a day? You would help very much, 'cause I'm about to put my hands down...
What caused the problem in your case?

It's best feeding her little bits several times a day. Make sure to dust everything with calcium/vitamins.And why have you been useing carsil and locke ringer solution, do you have a medical education or something?

to GeckoGathering - yes, you think that is not possible? We have a repair of our apartment now. I say the real miracle is that my cats didn't find him first... They killed many of my pets in more then 10 years already...

Yes, I am a DVM. But nobody teaches herp veterinary in our country, so here you have to teach yourself, it's complicated, really.
Forced feeding should be provided only in fluid and it is necessarily to add calcium/vitamins. The question is what medicines to use. It depends

Sorry for your loss; but since you still have 11 leos, I think its a good idea to locate a vet that can see reptiles; even if reptile vets are not a common thing in your country. Good luck.

this is impossible, because all other vets know herpetology not more, then I do. The nearest vet I could really trust is in Moscow.. And Moscow is in another country:) People are often come to me with their reptiles for an advise. The reason I opened this topic was a little hope, that maybe someone will advise something I do not know.
