Just going to lob all this into one big thing cause I don't feel like opening a dozen new posts lol.

First things first. I noticed on one of my girl leo's there were two like bubbly masses behind the arms. I thought they were fat, since I read about that happening, but they were too liquidish to be fat. I would have a picture but when my friend came over to take some the masses were gone. Was it calcium building up there or something? Anyone have any idea?

Next is a ? about Panacur. I've been using it and so far so good. Won't know the final result for a little but all my Leo's are still eating well and such and no really bad things to speak of yet (no abnormal behavior). But, my ? is this. I was reading about the use of Panacur in other animals, trying to find out what Panacur's side effects are, and found that in large cats (since the dose is A LOT larger for them) there is a small percentage that get softer stool. Could I assume that this could be the same in Leo's? I noticed a few days after administering the first dose of Panacur most of my geckos showed somewhat softer stool than before. I figure it could just be the parasites, but there's no real way to know since I am giving Panacur as a precaution to all my other animals after finding out one of the new girls had the stuff. Anywho on that.

Lastly is the turtles I said I would post pics of to get a final ID on, since I'm not sure. I think they are Common Musks though, and so did everyone else when I tried to describe them, but still I told Excessive I'd get the pics up, so here we are. It's all of the one turtle, but they are all the same in appearance, he's just the biggest.

Hopefully all those will work. Anywho, thanks all :).

I can't help 'ya much in the turtle department, but I can answer a couple of your questions about the leos. A lot of people thing that those bubbles around the armpits of their geckos are fat masses, but if they appear more fluid and blister-like, they are most likely lymphatic fluid that builds us in that area. This can mean there is an abundance of calcium, and usually it will go away one the calcium has been metabolized.

Panacur has probably the most 'safe' margin of all the other anti-parasitic medications. I could very well cause loose stools, but that is the least of your worries as long as your geckos are eating well. Keep in mind that information you might get on dogs and cats amy or may not apply since reptiles are cold-blooded and therefor will have different side-effects (if any) than that of mammals.

Thanks Marcia. I figured there would be a significant difference in different types of animals (mammal, reptile, bird, etc.), but it sort of was something that I noticed and thought it might be connected to the Panacur. It may or may not be.

In regards to the lymphatic fluid, in the future if they should show up is there anything I should keep an eye on about them or do? I stopped giving her calcium for a little while and they went away pretty quick, but are there any things I should be aware of that might indicate something worse than just some abundant calcium?

Thanks so much Marcia :).

As for the turtles. Thanks for the ID Excessive :). Appreciate it. I have 3 ( didn't take pics of all three, just the big guy). He's the biggest, one just a hair smaller than him, and one smaller than that one. I also got them a little pump for the time being so I can reduce the need to clean. I'll be getting a stronger one in a couple months though to have a more effective system.

I also over the next year want to start building a more naturalistic environment for them. Any recommendations for plants I can use? Types of sand or gravel or whatever substrate that would make a beach-ish like area? Specific rocks or debris? Anything I should know about introducing these things into an environment (such as for the plants, is there a need to quaranteen plants)? Anything like that basically. I know you built that really cool looking one Excessive, so any tips on how you build it would be awesome.

Thanks all :)

There are several options for habitat constructions to many to list your only limit is your imagintation, check out atphabitats.com for reference. Commonly used substrare are gravel, pae gravel, play sand, river rocks, etc, You can used several thinsg for water obstructions wood is my favorite although it commonly released tanins into the water causes frequent water changes if you don't like the tea color water. Java moss, fern are good options for plants which will grow on thw wood over time and don't require strong lightling.

My vet didn't seem to think it was much of a problem... he just said to cut back on their calcium level unless they are getting conditioned for breeding.

Ah okay. Well supposedly this girl had bred before, so perhaps it has something to do with that. Thanks Marcia and Excessive :)

QUESTIONS

So I know that I am new, but I worked with a herp vet for 5 years so I know a little bit about reptiles and a lot about mammals. Anyway, the armpit things are most likely calcium buildups like others have said. You should be fine with that because the body will eventually metabolize it. The Panacur is most likely causing the soft stools. When the body excretes some worms the stools will soften. It could be that your leos are getting rid of whatever worms they may have picked up or it may be that the Panacur could be a little irritating to the bowels (but not enough to worry about). Once you are done with your doses of Panacur the stools should return to normal. I don't know much about turtles so I am no help there.
