I have heard from many people that a UVB light is supposed to be good for the leos, but recently got informed that it can cause problems and be harmful to the gecko. Which is true? :main_huh: I want to know cause i have been taking very good care of my baby leo, but she died and we dont know why. we clean the tank often, keep the water clean, make sure there is food accessable at all times, and have a calcium/ vitamin powder supplament in the tank. i just dunno why she died!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your little leo. Leos do NOT need a UVB light.. i don't know if it is harmful though.

this is the wrong topic to postn this under i believe..

maybe a mod could move this thread somwhere else.

This belongs in the general discussion forum. As for the UVB, you don't need it but it doesn't hurt. If you only have say one or two geckos in the same tank and have an extra UVB bulb lying then use it but when the bulb wear off its UVB there is no need to replace it.

Leopard geckos do not need a uvb light. If you could tell us what the temps were and how you had the tank set-up we might be able to help you more. Was your leo eating or not eating and there is alot more things we need to know. The more you tell us what she was doing or not doing and stuff the better we can help you.

She hadn't been eating alot at the time she died. when we found her, she looked like she ate a little too much and had indigestion. the next morning, we woke up and found her dead, her stomach wasnt blown up like it had looked the night before. The temps during the winter were around 73-76 degrees at night and during the day(believe me, i tried to get them as high as i could, but it wouldnt go higher). and now, during the warmer seasons, i had it around 79-82 degrees. my tank set-up was the H2O on the cool side, her stone house and plastic leaves on the warm side, and her log in the middle. I also had calcium powder and cricket gel in there too.

it sounds like the temps were so low that she couldn't digest properly, as 73-76 degrees all the time is a little cool

79-82 degrees is fine on the cool side, but the warm side needs to be at 90 degrees or so

I'm terribly sorry for your loss :(

As for UVB, it is unnecessary, and you can save a lot of money without buying one ;)
