PROBLEM: (sorry its long, wanted to give as much detail as i could)
I have a 3-4 year old gecko named Starburst. She is healthy and average weight. A few weeks ago she was having trouble shedding, so I increased the humidity in her tank. After another week she was mostly shed but having trouble with her head and eye areas, so I gave her a warm bath each day till it all came off. The skin around her eyes was very difficult to remove and took a while. When all the shed was removed she looked fine. A few days later her left eye seemed to have a little clear film over it, so i put some eye drops (sterile saline) in it and it looked a bit clearer. Another few days passed with me putting eye drops in her eyes once or twice a day. Then i checked on her and the bad eye had gone completely white, this whiteness seemed also to be a film. After researching online I concluded that she had an eye infection. (I did not seem to me that there could be shed stuck in her eye, as i had helped get all the little pieces off when supervising her shed as i said earlier.) A trip to the vet is $75 minimum here, and I cannot get my parents to see a visit to the vet as justifiable for a pet that is $30 to begin with. This is not how I feel, but I can't really argue.
I bought Vetericyn Opthalmic Gel and also Terramycin (Opthalic ointment), and used those on her eye. After a week they seemed to gradually be clearing up. Her eye was mostly clear except for some chunks of film(clear/milky) that I could not remove because i was worried about injuring her further. Today, her bad eye was halfway closed and I could see gunk around the sides that looked like dried up film, I felt confident in removing it without hurting her so i removed the gunk with a pair of tweezers by pulling it from where it stuck on the outside of the eye. It came off and I was really excited, until Star opened her eye. There was a lot of clear liquid that came out first (it looked like i had just put in eye drops, but i hadn't) and after i cleared that away with a tissue, I began to see blood. More blood came out onto my tissue, but not a lot, just 2-3 dabs and it stopped. I put some Vetericyn in the eye with the intention of keeping the area clean and put her back in her tank to rest. Assuming a vet trip is not an option, what would you recommend I do now in continuing to care for Star's eye?
Additional Details
I believe it was the increase in humidity that caused her eye infection. I thouroughly cleaned out her tank and have her on paper towels and low humidity. She hasn't ate much since this all started, but on one of the days when her eye was looking best (after starting treatment with products above) I did get her to eat 5-8 wax worms. She hunted like normal, except seemed to have to rely on her good eye for judging distance.
