my 2.5 year old leo has a head tumor since post hurricane sandy.
Got a biopsy and was not an abcess or cancerous (has not spread, is confined to right side of head/eye area)
Before surgical removal. healthy appetite but would vomit (not regurgitate) if he ate more than 2 mealworms/wax worms at a time.
Post removal, gained an amazing amount of weight and never threw up again. The mass was in fact a tumor as the cells were very condensed, but crumbled as vet removed it.
Post removal about 4 months later, growth grew back at a good pace.
Vomiting worms again, and losing his weight. Still has an appetite but must give him 1 food every 12 hours. which is not gaining him weight , but is preventing the vomit.
At this point, a 2nd surgery in one year seems outlandish. It is altering his jawline and pushing against his eye. Right now im just trying to allow him to live his life and give him what food he can eat.
My question is, what are some signs that a leo would be experiencing pain chronic pain? To what extent that euthanasia would just have to be an option? This just seems like it is going to be a slow process in the sense that he will be experiencing more difficulties within the next months.
Also has anyone experienced tumors? (not abcess). Benign or cancerous? and what information has your vet given you about the process of dealing with this illness?
