leopard gecko no using the hot side of the vivarium

Hello. I am new to the forum and had a question..

I have had my leopard gecko for around a month now and at first he would drift from the hot side to the cool as he pleased. recently I added a large branch and then soon after stuck some fake plants at the top. since I added the plants he will stay hidden up there. I don't see him come down.

When i take him down to feed i notice his belly is cold. he will feed as normal everyday, then soon go back to the top and stay there. I know he needs warmth to digest so can anyone suggest anything?

What are the floor temps on that side (not air temps)?

Thanks for the replies. i took down the plant and put them next to his hides. he seems to be back to normal now, moving in and out of the cold and hot side. maybe he was/is scared. I've heard juveniles can be a little skittish..
