Well, as you're asking on a Leopard gecko forum, all the answers will pretty much go one way :main_thumbsup:. Leopard geckos are noctournal, can become very docile, and are curious. They only grow about 9-12 inches, so you won't need a super huge tank. There's also another popular option, out of many; the bearded dragon. Now, this species is usually a tad bit more docile than leos, if I remember correctly. Also, you'll need a considerably larger tank, as they grow a LOT bigger than Leos. It's more expensive to feed them. I only have Leos and a dwarf sungazer, so maybe some other people that actually have BD's can elaborate on this, and correct me if any info is wrong ;)

I breed both bearded dragons and leopard geckos.

Leopard geckos are great because they are docile as adults and you can go for a few days between feedings. They don't take up a lot of space and they have very simple requirements. However, they aren't very social during the day because of the whole nocturnal thing. Plus they just aren't friendly and outgoing like dragons are. You might also like fat tail geckos for similar ease of care. They are essentially the same reptile in slightly different packaging. Crested Geckos are similar as well and are REALLY cute. But now you're getting into arboreal species that require plants and misting systems and all this other stuff that I personally don't like to deal with.

Bearded dragons are awesome because they don't get too big either- though they are much larger than geckos and have much more involved care. They require special lighting and a daily diet of fruits, veggies, insects with calcium dusting, etc. I would get a little boy because they do the black bearded thing and bob their heads at you like parrots. Like in human culture, boys seems to do a lot more for your attention. That said, I have two little girls, Sushi and Cheez who literally leap out of their tank when I open the door. They LOVE to be on me and climb up me to sit on my shoulder. Girls are nice because you can house more than one at a time. Boys can be housed with girls but that of course leads to babies.

At the moment I have three working dragon tanks and one big gecko rack. Geckos can only be housed with one male per tank as well. Two boys will always fight each other.

Baby dragons... They can be housed in a smaller enclosure, but will inevitably outgrow it. I would start with a 40 gallon tank on a nice stand from day one because they grow up really fast and why waste the money.

I hope this long and rambling post helps you out. I can go into a LOT more detail about various species if you need. :)
