hi, ive been a leopard gecko owner for a couple days now and i recently held my gecko and she struggled a bit and i heard a sqeaking, rubbery sound not a hiss but i dont really know how to explain it, and i wanted to kno if that was normal. Also she hasnt eaten since i got her but im assuming its because she is still ajusting to her new home because when i got her she was pretty healthy n she still looks healthy and very active at night. i have her set up in a 15 gal tank i use a uth during the day 93-98 degrees and on the cool side on 76-84 at night i have the warm side at 86 with a red light bulb n the cool in the low 80s

oh cuz i heard about it being a symptom of respiratory infection... and hopefully it is nothing cuz she looks pretty healthy n i think i got the right enviroment so all i have to do is wait for her to eat!! is there anything that might help her speed up this process like its fav food or something?

have you ever heard a bullfrog squeak when you go to grab it...same thing its you little guy say put me the F down! LOL If you have only had the little one for a couple days I would for go any further handling for a couple of weeks while the lil one settle in. you may have an easier time getting him or her to eat by not handling it and stressing it.

Going off food is exactly the reason why most breeders do not sell a Leo baby till it reaches at least 15gram or more. This way you little one will have a little leway in the not eating dept. Keep offering her food, don't stress her by picking her up...and before you know it she will become more relaxed and start eating.

Also I would ditch the light, and just keep the UTH on 24-7 at 95degrees. and let the cool side be at room temp. you don't really want your warm and cool sides to be close to the same temp the way you do...you leo will have no way to cool down. You want a temp gradient in the viv and 85 on warm side and 80 on cool isn't a gradient.

From this post above it reads as if you turn down your UTH to have hot side temps at 86. What kind of thermometor do you have, are you measuring floor temps or do you have a temp dial that is on the glass? You should have a digital temp display with a probe that can lay on the floor bottom so you know what temp your Leo's belly is getting. If you have a thermostat you can set your hot side to maintain 90-95 degree 24-7 and then you won't need the red light. The problem with the light is it is heating up the whole viv because it is a small tank. Hot side should never fall below 90...especially at night because if you feed your leo in the evening it will need those higher temps to digest. And proper digestion can occur at 86 degrees.

Many geckos are frightened and intimidated by different types of red lights. Night glo black is safer.

I totaly agree. I found with many of my geckos that they dont like the red light. Im pretty sure they can see it.
Iv got a really low W night glow in mine, it hardly gives off any heat atall. Just means i can monitor them during the night without having to turn the lights on in the room.

yikes...ditch the phone and type your post on a computer...hard to understand what your saying here but Im thinking you are saying you warm side is 95 and your cool side is 77-80. Thats perfect! Again Ditch the light and just stick with belly heat. And this seems to be a theme among new owners that they worry where in the viv your leo is hanging out. STOP LOL

Your Leo is moving around I promise, and will choose to go on whatever side it feels comfy on. It just so happens you always see him on the cool side.

And YES the noise was normal and like i said above your Leo will choose where and when he wants to walk around or lay in his viv...so let him!:main_laugh:

Lol.... well yes the temp is 95 on the warm side n 77-80 in the cool side but also it gets to 103 on the hot side how would i control that? and how much would it cost, also id like a link would be helpful as well.

status update: my gecko ate 5 mealworms off my hand, so she is eating now and getting use to her new home c:

also i just read about enigma syndrome and well now i know why my gecko sometimes does a 360 spin and stares at the sky randomly. Is there something i should be worried about or something special that i should be doing? cuz i nvr knew this abt enigmas l:

for now put a couple extra layers of paper towel over the hot side till you get a thermostat.

As for the link...there are really too many thermostats out there to give you just one link...you can do something as simple as a Rheostat to something as expensive and detailed as a digital programmable thermostat/thermometer combos. Since I don't have that kind $$ I have a Rheostat its not perfect but is do able! you can also go to any hardware store and get a light dimmer cord and control that will do the same. Use google to search out different ones.
