How thin does the tail on a leopard gecko get before it dies? Mine won't eat. :(

Probably, something like this.

You should try the slurry and see if you get him to eat. If you get any feces, you should take them as fresh as possible to the vet, so they can make a fecal test and see what's the problem.

I advise you to try also waxworms and butterworms. They are quite nutritious and high in fats, and leos love them! (at least love waxworms, I would like to try butterworms but they are not sold here).

Please tell us what are the enviromental conditions it is mantained at (heat, humidity, substrate, lighting, tank size, etc), when and where did you purchase the gecko... That might help us to discover the reason why it isn't eating, but that doesn't prevent you from taking it to the vet.

I agree if your leo is not eating and the tail is getting thin it needs to be seen by a vet and you need to look at the environment for answers. Any info you can give about how you house and care for your gecko will help us help you.

I third that!

Need more info so we can help you better, I say a vet visit is in order. ;)

I agree. Get some of my slurry in your gecko, and when it produces a stool get it to the vet for a fecal test. I would also like to know how your geckos is being housed, what the temperatures in it's enlosure are, and how long it has been off food.

Wow! Gauging the life of your gecko by how thin it's tail is! Get that thing to a vet ASAP and in the meantime follow the advice about the slurry.

Sorry to sound so aggro, but dude...

She is in the exact housing as she was before I got her 3 weeks ago on Monday, but she doesn't seem to be losing any weight or getting any thinner. She has eaten one cricket the entire time. The only thing I can think of that would cause her to not eat is the stress because she is in the same housing arrangement and she was eating perfectly fine the day I got her. I know that she was eating because I saw her and I bought her from one of my best friends. I have not handled her at all except for once to get her into her cage. The temps are 90-92 on the hot spot and about 77-80 on the cool side, and the cool side drops to about 73-74 at night.

Sometimes geckos do go on hunger strikes, I had it happen to one of mine she didn't eat for 2 weeks NOTHING and after I got her on some slurry she started eating a day later 22 mealies in one feeding!

In any case I think you should take her in or get a fecal done at least to check for any problems just to be safe ;)

Is she housed alone I'm guessin yes?
