I had a little experience last night that I would like to share.. About 8:00 pm I just finished cleaning cages and feeding, checked on my eggs in the incubator. Everything was going nice and smooth, then darkness...The power goes out in the whole town. Right away my first reaction was Oh boy, Incubator,6 eggs, heat, geckos... As I saw the temps drop in the bator I realized I had better do something and quick. I started thinking, racking my brain. I ran to my kitchen, grabbed zip lock bags and started filling them with hot water. I put 2 bags in my incubator and started to see the temps rise. I also did this with warm water for all my breeders, 20 cages...Despite the time it took, this worked beautifully. I monitored my incubator and the temps stayed at 88 degrees. I changed the water out every 2 hours. The power finally came back on at 4:00 am this morning. The up side to all of this, I was changing the water at 2:00 am and there it was, my first of the season beautiful Albino Het Raptor hatchling... NICE!!! Needles to say, I will be getting a generator very soon...

Yes a generator is a great investment. My dad got one large enough to heat the entire house. and power the entire house. i told him just my incubator and breeding rack. We could keep my snakes worm and we would have a fire going to keep the house warm!

I was a bit concerned yesterday too with insane winds and my lights flickering a few times.

Ours went out about a month ago for 6 hours and I put 2 of those hand warmers inside my hovabator and the temps stayed at 88. I was rushing around like a chicken with it's head off getting all the geckos out of the tanks and into their carring cases with heat packs. We are definatly thinking about investing in a generator. I am glad to hear that all your eggs are ok and congrats on the new little one.
