I am interested in seeing your roach setup.
I am currently keeping my Dubias in a Sterilite " stackable drawer" thing with zoo med heat cable wrapped around the inside outer wall.
It seems to be working great, but I am getting some Blatta lateralis and was wondering if the setup is the same?

I'll post some pics in a bit.

First lever has some mealworms, second use to have supers, third has Dubias and fourth is the future Blatta lateralis home.

Dubias gladware container doesn't have a screen, because they dont really go on top.

Future turk house.

This blue glad ware container, contains wet vermiculite with holes then a screen on top top to help raise the humidity. It seems to work nicely!

I've posted these photos before...

My nymph bins that I sort out every 6-8 weeks from my producing colonies.

The adult breeding bins look similar, except the bins are larger and more cardboard.

WOW!! That is what I want mine to look like in a few months LOL. Right now I just have about 15 adults and about 100 nymph, getting a few more in so maybe that makes a difference.
Thanks for posting.

For water I just provide Apples, Carrots, Potatoes, oranges ( I have heard calcium is bad for them so I am reducing the oranges)
and many other fruits and vegetables.

Anyone else want to show off their setups?? * cought* Nigel * cought*

I`ll post a picture of one of my tubs....eventually :main_laugh:

Also Edgar I`m going to warn you to keep that enclosure for your Lateralis very very secure. As they are Escape artists and one of the biggest pest species in europe... They are great once they take off but I have reduced my numbers of them due to that, and have roach molts show up around the gecko room... But luckily those House spiders take care of most of them ;)

:main_laugh: ok I'll be waiting!!
So what do you think of my setup, does it seem ok? And do you think the Blatta lateralis will be able to get out?

The garage gets in the low '90 during a hot summer day and so it hopefully gets things going faster ( it sure did to my mealworsm!!)

Also how do you think they get out? Is it when your transporting them or they just crawl out?

I heard they are becoming a problem in California, arizona and some other states.

last season I had colonies of escaped crickets thriving for a while, but My pest control here are what I think are chorus frogs and some type of toads that I see in the garage sometime (couple times in the cricket bins LOL)

I do think they will be able to get out. Honestly a very reputable Roach Breeder in your neck of the woods(No names mentioned) whom I have the utmost respect for, even told me when I asked him about Lateralis... he said "NO, you don't want Lateralis" "They are the spawn of Roach Satan" :main_laugh:

Yeah I hope I dont see escapees. I have sticky traps around the garage used for catching the pesky crickets so hopefully that will let me know if any are escaping if I find some on there.

I am going to try them for a while and if it doesnt work out i'll feed them off to the geckos or sell them LOL.

Do you think they are going to get out because of the container or because they can climb?( I know they are not supposed, but I heard they sometime do)

^ there is a small smell in the bedding that makes my eyes water and my nose runny. Its all the mealworms poop dust LOL. I try to stay away from that.
But nothing as bad as Super worms :(

Here is one of my roach setups. I have two...one mostly adults (the one I'm picturing) and the other mostly nymphs that I pick out once a week for the feedings (makes it much quicker!!). The only thing missing from these pictures is the fruits and veggies I put in right after I took them...apples and carrots this week :) They will be gone in a day or two. The water crystals are in need of a cleaning and refill too!

Top of the container...gotta love the duct tape! The screen was just glued, but the cat was too interested in the rustling the roaches make :) -

Inside the tub, what you can't see is the 100s of tiny babies all over in the frass -

This is my Blatta Latralis colony. I don't use substrate, I simply collect all of the egg cases once a week and keep them in a small moist container. It really helps keep the smell down.
