I have just acquired my Leo from another owner, who clearly does not want anything to do with it. I have been looking and researching for a while

I know the way I am going to set up the tank and understand what I need however this is the way I have received it, all it come with was a water bowl, half a tree some plastic plants and it is heated from a bulb above see below

I am going to purchase a heating mat and a reptile carpet.

What I need to know is what to do tonight. When I went to the local pet shop they never had any heating mats. The light that is on above is quite powerful and the temperature is saying around 30 degrees celsius, what will I do at night will I turn the bulb off or will it get too cold? When I received the Viv it never even had any hides in it so I picked up a hide today that was big enough and am going to get another one tomorrow along with a heating mat.

I would leave the light on even at night just for tonight till you get a heat pad. Make sure the heat pad is 1/3 the size of the tank bottom, I made the mistake of buying one that was to small and had to buy another.

Thanks for the reply, I have been to every pet shop in the area but because im in Germany everything is closed until at least Monday, so could not get any supplies. Do you suggest I leave the light on until Monday?

He is also not eating, I think it may be because he has just moved and is a little scared, I have some worms in a bowl for him but he has not touched them, If he goes another day without eating, do you suggest force feeing him? I have not handled him yet and have just left him to it but I dont think he has come out the hide I got yesterday for him

The absolute worse thing you could do to a gecko who is already stressed from moving is force feed. Most new geckos won't eat for a week or two after moving. And you are going to have to find some way to keep the cage heated until you can get an UTH. Do you have any hand warmers?

I wont do that then, I do have a hand warmer, I dont know how long it will keep warm though, Should I heat it and put it in the viv or under the viv? im not sure it will be warm enough to heat it from below

How warm is your house? If it is around 60F or warmer that is fine for night temps and in that case I would turn the light off after 12 hours.
Below 60F I would leave the light on.
