I'm having an extremely hard day. I woke up this morning, went into the gecko room (usually a great start to the day) and found my little rescue dead in the corner of her tub. This is the first gecko I have lost. Poor little thing was probably too far gone when I got her. I spent the morning having a pity party for myself. People have told me (thank you again Marcia for listening to be babble) I've done the best I could...it's hard to feel that way when you lose an animal that shouldn't have been sick in the first place. At least she spent her last days with a full, warm belly.

Rest in peace little Baby Bell. I love you with all my heart while you were here, sometimes that's just not enough.

Oh no, Heather...

I'm really shocked... I was hoping she/he would pull through. It's very sad. I'll be honest, I feel like I could cry right now. Her little story had touched me so much.

I want you to know though that you gave her everything she needed. You provided her with a warm, loving, and super caring home for her. That really is the greatest gift anyone can provide to a suffering animal.

I'm not sure what else to say because I know how much it hurts to lose a rescue. However, if you need to talk to someone feel free to pm me or email me at any time.

*hugs*

I'm really sorry.

Thanks Jennifer, thank you Hannah.

I had hope, she was eating the slurry fine, and was having BMs...not large ones, but they were there nonetheless.

I honestly think she was off heat, and lacked the proper care for far too long, and no amount of TLC I could give her was going to repair that.

I never thought this would hit me THIS hard...I bawled like a 4 year old when I was out burying her :(

oh Heather, I'm so sorry to hear you lost your little baby Bell. :(

You're right though, you did what you could and gave her a great home to spend her last days. My thoughts are with you . . .

Thank you Kristi...I guess everyone has to lose a gecko at one point or another, I just had hoped with how rough her start had been, that in my care she could push though.

Just goes to show you that some people/pet stores should NOT be allowed to have/sell these beautiful creatures.

Thank you Brittney. Man this sucks, I am such a baby! I need to buck up and be happy the rest of my group is as healthy and happy as they are. I guess your first loss does hit you like a ton of bricks.

Heather, my heart is broken for you in the loss of this very special little one. I can understand your grief and sadness by losing something so treasured. Please know that you gave this sweet little one the very best life it has ever known. It spent it's last days in warmth, with a full belly, and being loved by you.

It's easy for us to ask ourselves 'why', and have inner doubts about what we might have done differently so the final outcome would not have been so tragic. But not for a moment should you ever doubt that you provided these gifts for a little creature that needed you. You surely could not have done better for such a fragle little one.

You may not see it at this time, but there will be a place in your heart for the 'forgotten one' that will never be forgotten.

I'm so sorry Heather but I doubt there was anything else you could have done. You got her from a very rare and tough situation and you were the one that gave her the world. Don't beat yourself up for too long you and everyone on here knows that you gave that little girl(?) the best few days that she could ever have.

I am very sorry for your loss Heather. I know how hard it is to loose one of these little rescues. You have to remember that you made this little ones end so much better then the rest of it's little life had been. You gave love and tenderness to a creature that hadn't known that before. It is hard not to be able to save all of them. All we can do is try. You did your best. You gave yur heart and that is the greatest gift that can be given. Best wishes.

Well Heather it must be a bad couple of days, i just got a call from my girlfriend while at work (where i still am) that one of my adults passed away. we have been trying and trying to help her on through but it seems that all my attempts were not enough. Unfortunatly we didn't take it to a vet we had an appointment set up but alas too little too late. On a good note we do have all of our other geckos in good health and all their stools have been tested with all negitive results.
