The two new geckos I got today bit me when I tried to pick them up. It didnt hurt at all or anything since they're babies but it scared the crap outta me. It hissed and squeaked and then bit me. Never had a reptile attack me before, just my turtles but thats because they thought my hand is food, its never by aggression.

They will tame up with time and handling right?

babies also alway scares the crap out of me - they use this to try and scare of any predatores :) But in time they will settle down. Just try and stay calm and let them bite you they will soon find out you are not dangerous :)

I've always heard the same thing. Babies are more wild and have an automatic defense mechanism which they will learn they don't need against you as time goes on :)

no reptile is aggressive, nor do they want to bite. They are defensive. Imagine your a baby gecko that just got transported to a new home and now you have this huge giant "predator" hovering over you...you would be pretty scared. So always remember that reptiles are defensive not aggressive, and by having that mentality you will have an easier time understanding your reptiles behavior thus have an easier time "taming" it.

Babies r so funny. They r so tiny and act like they r the baddest little things in the world. They usually come around with time and patience. Congrats on the new little guys.

yeah...lol. they'll keep biting you probably until they learn to not bite the hand that feeds.

Wretch was less than a month old when i got him. every time i stuck my hand in the tank to change water or feed him...he would attack my hand and then scream at me. hence the name "Wretch" (its from a video game Gears of War....he's a little bugger like those wretches, lmao)

anyways....he's three months old now and he doesnt bit me anymore :) just give it time. once they grow up, they realize we wont eat them

We had one little one that came out of the egg screaming and biting. Hes a year old now and he still doesnt have the best personality, lol. He is better but he prefers if we just feed, water, clean and leave him alone. Hes not a real people gecko

I think hatchling hissing and screaming is so cute and funny after you get over the initial shock. lol~ *starts humming NIN the hand that feeds.* haha

This is sad...

I'm more than nervous around them. I'm actually scared of them LOL
I'm even a bit scared to handle my calm one now.

I haven't dare touched my other new one since it seems less defensive. I'm trying to work on my albino. She scares the crap outta me. I stood by the tank for an hour today just staring at her. Few times she screamed at me unexpectedly and every nerve on my body just fires...I tried the knuckle technique. It took me like 10 minutes to move my hand close enough to her face and I was probably less than 1millimeter away from her nose but I chickened out, no skin contact at all and just went back to doing my other reptile chores.

Maybe I'll be braver tomorrow lol. Shes the smallest one too. Seems like 1 months old or something but she eats like a pig.

Once they're adult size, their bites can draw blood right?
