Tonight, I had some extra crickets that none of my geckos or my bearded dragon wanted to eat, so i decided to bring them out to my blue tongued skink; he hasn't had live food in a good 7 or 8 months, we mostly feed him cat food or ground beef with banana, kale/collard greens/mustard greens, and the occasional blueberries and such. He went NUTS!! I thought he was gonna bite my fingers off! Time to bring out the tongs :main_rolleyes:

What is a good diet when it comes to "live prey" for a Blue tongued skink? I've always fed him crickets and superworms in the past, and I know they still need greens and fruits and stuff, but what are some other good, healthy, and nutritious sources of protein?

Thanks :)

Various species of roaches, snails, the occasional fertilized egg. The cat food and ground beef not so much. its not the meat but the innards that supply the nutrients. Whole fish as an example are a nutritious food fish fillets not so much.

Ditch the crickets and superworms and go with roaches, snails, silkworms, hornworms among others.

My BTS absolutely loves nightcrawlers. He won't touch crickets. They are too small and quick for him.
