I need some help with this one.

I have a dog and cat that stay with my mom while I finish my paramedic training. I live with my dad and his wife. His wife doesn't like any other dog except her daughter's who is my step sister. She has a little terrier. She's admitted that she doesn't like any other dog. She's met my dog and almost flew off the handle when Roxy was sniffing one of her cats.

Roxy needs a playmate and I miss having a dog here. Roxy is staying with my mom because she's so attached to my cat and my moms that I can't take her away. I've found a few dogs I'm looking into adopting. I need to clear it with my dad and his wife first.

Any tips on how to deal with someone so narrow minded towards dogs? I'm going to sound like a little kid when I talk to them about it. There's nothing for them to do except let him/her out when I'm at training which is three times a week. Other than that the dog is going to be with me. I'm just stumped on how to reason with them and work something out.

Perhaps she's had a bad experience with dogs bigger than terriers. It may also be typical dog behaviors that bother her.

She's never had dogs before and she likes her brothers lab mix. I don't know what her deal is but I'm going to find out this week I hope.

my dad was the same way when i got my first pit bull , but after he spent a whole day with the dog that was the end of it , now the dog doesn't leave my dad's side . dog won't even get off the couch when i walk inthe door, but i think she just needs to give the dog a chance , once that happens things will change she gave the terrier a chance so she needs to give your dog a chance !!!

Maybe see if she will go with you to a Shelter to meet some dogs. Or have a friend come over with a Smaller dog.. see if that helps.

I never thought about that. I brought it up to my dad last week and he was neutral on the idea. We needed to get a new car first and guess what? The next day I'm buying a truck! So I've got a new truck and can move forward with the idea.

I'm talking to them about it some more today and I'll bring that up. I was going to take them with me when I went to get said dog if they approved. Taking them with me to see a few dogs would be much better.

I think the difference with the terrier is that the terrier leaves and isn't here 24/7. Then again it's still a double standard. Here's one of the many dogs I've found.
