I'm interested in buying this leopard gecko. It's best offer though and I have no idea what morph he is. Help? :main_huh:

That is a normal leopard gecko. It does not look 100% healthy. You should never see unshed peeling skin on a healthy gecko. Also he looks like he has a bite wound on his head and may be a bit under weight. I would pick up a healthy gecko from a good breeder so you're not dealing with $100s in vet bills from one that has not been properly taken care of.

Looks like a normal with some shedding issues. What did the seller say it was? I assume your not buying it from a breeder.

He's running his sales off of a facebook page. Breeds all sorts of reptiles snakes, leopard geckos, iguanas, a couple other things.

I asked him about the shedding and his response was "He's in midshed, took him out really quick to get a picture"

Based of your advice I'll skip out on this one. Thanks guys ^_^ I appreciate the quick response.

IMO that's not normal "in shed" it looks like that guy has a couple layers of unshed skin on him which could indicate a bigger health issue than just shedding.

Judging by what you said the breeder breeds, it is probably someone who does a lot of trades and maybe breeds one or two things himself and sells whatever he can. Certainly can't take care of a leopard gecko.

We run a Leo Rescue for geckos with enigma syndrome and geckos that need to be re-homed because "the kids got bored" Mostly enigmas though
I want to help this leo out, but we avoid buying geckos from breeders like this. It's just unfortunate that buying him would give this breeder the funds to mistreat other animals. Really torn on this.

Also I have never dealt with a gecko that has several layers of unshed. Didn't realize that was even possible. So thanks for letting me know. :] Gecko Forums has helped our program more than any other reptile forum with questions like this. I appreciate all the responses!

It never hurts to ask. While I doubt it, it might be the case that the guy has no clue about leos and doesn't even know its sick. Maybe he'll be really sorry and rush it to the vet or give it to you to rehabilitate. That he said to you "he's just in shed" leads me to believe otherwise though.

I would be cautious. As I mentioned he could have underlying health problems that could transfer to the other reptiles in your house or lead to $100s in vet bills. If you do pick up a gecko like this I would be extremely careful about observing a strict 90-day quarantine as far away from your other pets as possible. Sorry if I'm preaching to the choir - if you run a leo rescue you probably have dealt with this more than I have :)

Glad to hear the forum has been such a help!

I definitely don't mind advice. Even with the most common problems like diarrhea I post in the forums for a little reassurance. It's normally enigma syndrome leo's that come in, so I'm used to neurological issues more than illness.

Anything that isn't neurological I immediately bring to the vet, 90% of the time I'll post on here to get a general idea of what's going on in case I can't get in contact with a vet asap.

As for the shedding, we usually have the help the enigmas that come in so I was totally surprised. Thanks to you I'll have an idea as to whats going on if I get a leo that dark. ^_^

(I type to much. My point issss)- No need to apologize. Second opinions always help. I would hate to be wrong one day and find out that I ended up harming a leo more than helping it.
