I've decided my care for my lovely gecko has become inadequate for her needs. Both my vet and people from this forum have assured me that her lifespan will be cut short in my care. She is the sweetest gecko I have ever handled, she isn't fussy and has always been perfectly content in falling asleep on my shoulder or hands. She has some shed problems around her eyes, which is curable and she's gotten fairly thin, which I am worried about. I feel that all her problems are my fault, and that she could be happy and healthy for a quite a bit longer if she was given the proper care.

Her most pressing issue is the abscess on cheek. I have visited the vet 4 times, and she has done NOTHING. I'm at a loss. I'm desperate and I just want her to be healthy again.

Included will be:

A 10 gallon tank w/heating pad on left side
A heat lamp
Food and water dishes
Hide log
Moss
Powdered nutrients
Calcium supplement
Cricket supplement

and of course my beautiful and loving gecko, about 10 years old.

Her as she looks when she was chubby and healthy.

Her more recently, her color has returned slightly, but she has gotten thinner.

I will deliver her to anyone within 3-4 hours of Wichita, Kansas. Outside of that we will have to come up with something. My personal e-mail is: [email protected]

Please help me.

oh my gosh, you've had her for 10 years??? you MUST be doing something right! don't be so hard on yourself. you have obviously done all you can and you care about her. she does not look sickly thin and the weight loss is probably due to her advanced age. i have had my fair share of mouth abscesses and they are indeed hard to treat. imo, i dont think a new home will help her, i think it will stress her out and that could shorten her life span. she doesnt look terrible for 10 years old! if you dont like the way her vet has treated her so far, then maybe try a new vet. i would recommend antibiotics and a topical treatment for the abscess and cleaning it 2-3 times a day with a 1:15 betadine solution. if she has trouble eating, fix her up some slurry. i dont know what others have said to make you feel like you cant take care of her, but i dont know the whole story either. so this is just my opinion on whats posted here. take care :)

Did you try going to another vet? Perhaps the one you talked to before does not know much about reptiles? I don't see anything wrong with your care as described. She still looks to be in relatively good condition from the recent pictures.
