Hello. I recently became a leo owner (first reptile). I hope the pic shows up of "Randall". Kiddos picked the name from Monsters Inc. I've been reading the last couple days and trying to make him as comfortable as possible. Still have some questions but as of right now things seem ok. I spend a little time with him when I get home from work and hand treat him a cricket to hopefully get him acclimated to humans. Look forward to our new home here. Let me know what you think.

Welcome! Your first setup is looking pretty good. If you have any questions, you can as them in the appropriate sub-forum of the Leopard Gecko board:

Only comment straight off is that you should get yourself a better thermometer (infrared temp guns are great, and the little digital ones with a probe on a cable are good too). Those little strips/dials aren't very accurate and can't tell you the floor surface temperature on the warm side, which is what is most important to know for leopard geckos.

Thanks. I'm an HVAC tech so I brought home my digital temp gun. Temps are great but humidity is killing me. I got about 96 on warm side and about 80 on cool side for Temps. 60% humidity :(. Getting a log this week

Shoot for about 88 - 92 F floor temp inside the warm hide, and you'll be good. Hmm, if your ambient humidity isn't that high, you could be getting evaporation out of the water dish? I usually keep mine on the cool side to try to avoid that. Still, I don't think that's too bad. People get really obsessive about keeping the humidity low, but I've noticed a lot of mine hang out in humid hides a lot without issue.

Thanks. Ill post a new pic soon as I got a background and log. I also got a new nightime light but I dont like it. Its red and ALOT brighter than my purple one. Going to search around here and see what others are using at night. May also try a little rice sack to dry things up. I appreciate your comments as it doesnt seem like to many other found interest. Hate being the "new guy", haha.
