Mac Snows and Super Snows

So I was reading up to understand co dom genetics and I had run up to an interesting issue.

So a reg Mac Snow could be defined as S'S now when breeding two together theres a 25% chance of S'S' or Super snows. Now that means that there is also a 1 in 4 chance of a SS or a, now heres the ?, Sub Snow? Now if you breed two "sub snows" or SS you could never get a super snow out of these correct? Now if this is the case. Would there not be Mac het Super and a Mac, wich isn't "het" Super?

Well the only thing I know from reading about snows is that if you breed a one copy snow to another one copy snow, you will get a super snow as both parents will pass on one copy. I didn't know there was a 1 in 4 chance of this though. I though it was 100% to produce super snows this way. I think the regular mack snows are the one copy snows. Sorry, that wasn't much help was it!! Genetics confuse me lol

Mack Snow x Mack Snow yields
1/4 Normal,
1/2 Mack Snow,
1/4 Mack Super Snow offspring.

Mack Snow x Mack Super Snow yields
1/2 Mack Snow,
1/2 Mack Super Snow offspring.

Mack Super Snow x Mack Super Snow yields
all Mack Super Snow offspring.

the way i understand it is the mack snow is the visible "het" form of the mack super snow so i dont think its possible to have a mack not het for the super. i guess what your calling a sub snow would be the normals that come out of the mack x mack breeding and they get no mack snow genes.

I agree completley with what you have said.

Huh?

The Mack Snow gene is technically an Incomplete Dominant gene. I won't go there as the terminology has been beaten to death.

A single copy (heterozygous) MS (Mack Snow) has a different phenotype (visual type) than a double copy (homozygous) MS. The homozygous MS is called a Mack Super Snow and has a totally different phenotype.

When you are working out the various genetic make-ups it's exactly the same as a recessive trait accept that the hets have one phenotype and the homozygous specimens have another phenotype.

I hope this helps...I always use www.geneticswizard.com to work out the possibilities...

Here is MS x MS...

Het. mack snow (MS)
x
Het. mack snow (MS)

---------------------------------------

25% WT
50% Het. mack snow (MS)
25% Homozygous mack snow (MSS)

Yes, I agree too. With everything except for the term "co-dom". Macks Snows are actually incomplete dominant, like Steve said.
