Maggots

I personally would not do so, just because I have heard that the stuff they eat can convert to be harmful to a gecko. If you are going to do this I would make sure you know what the maggots have been eating. (even then I still would not feel comfortable doing so)

also this horror story.

Ive heard of people feeding geckos maggots but i wouldn't personally. This is due to what i saw happen to a beardie that got fed more maggots than it should have. The beardie was found dead one morning and the still live maggots had eaten their way back out through the stomach.(not a nice sight).

do not know how true it is but yeah lol

I would stick with silk worms or meal worms... Some even use phoenix worms which are great also. If you feed them mealworms and crickets then just gut load them with nutrition pre-feeding and make sure to dust with calcium every now and then.

tl;dr

IDK, hopefully some one will know more than me. =]

You shouldn't buy feeders from a bait store in general. Who knows how they're fed. They're not meant to be consumed long term by pets so they may not have been raised on high quality food. I would stick with feeders that are bred to be consumed by pets, especially lizard pets.

I used them winter before last for my fire bellied toads when I couldn't get crickets. They turned out to be a great feeder for them. The toads are still alive.

I never felt comfortable giving them to my geckos though.
