Making hides

I wanting to make one of those backround/hides out of the styrofoam, but I was curious I'v read to cover the foam in kitchen grout, but does it need to be sealed after that or is the grout safe for animals after drying?

I would use non-sanded grout and seal it with a non toxic clear drying glue.I mix elmers glue and water put it in a spray bottle and give it three coats.(just what i do)
