Making mealworms last

So I picked up 2000 mealies from a shop around my place, cost me just under $20. I put about 300 in 1 tub with potatoes and some dog food to try and breed and the rest in another tub which is in the fridge, both with oats. I was just wondering how long do you think I can make those mealies in the fridge last? Ive checked out different sites and most say I should take them out once a week or so to feed.

They should last just about forever as long as you do take them out occasionally to feed them. Leave them out about an hour to warm up enough to start moving again then maybe 2-3 more hours to feed then back in the fridge.

Dog Shrink is correct. I prefer to leave mine out overnight though to feed. Normally, they'll swarm vegetables when they come out of the fridge. Make sure you've got enough in there for everyone. If a veggie is completely obscured by mealworms, then you probably need to throw another one in there. The biggest killer of refrigerated mealworms is dehydration. Leaving them out overnight lets them absorb some of the humidity from the house, as well as feed.
