Male and female difference?

How does male and female compare in terms of lifespan and behaviour? Will female go through ovulation period and stop eating like how leopard geckos do? This is going to be a concern on whether I should get a male or female. Also, do males generally live longer than females? I'm really hoping to start with a hatchling; but can sexing be done so early?

In terms of leopard geckos, I prefer males over females; as they seem to have more personality and are a lot more active (always trying to climb up my arm, etc). Most of my females prefer I leave them alone although they don't mind if I pick them up. Is this the same with beardies? Will they try to get human attention like my male leos do?

There's sometimes a different 'look' to them.

Males-
Black beard
Have a more triangular shaped head
They look less 'fat' or 'shapely' :p
Head bobbing (I've never seen this) usually only when they're about to mate or see a female

Females-
Less triangular shaped head
Look more 'rounded' pancake like
Arm waving, less dominate males will also do this

Their behavior is about the same, unless you are talking about housing them together. Females you can usually house multiple ones without a problem unless the female decides to be dominate.

You can't get a beardie shipped to you as small as the ones in the petstores (i hate seeing those :( ) But if you look at faunaclassifieds, or check out beardeddragon.org they'll sell them to you pretty young, but not 'too young' I forget what the age is. But usually they can determine the sex, if not they'll say 'probable'.

My male is a sweetheart, everyone loves him...people who come visit love them. But most beardies are very sweet. They have a sweet temperment to begin with. So I'd say whichever :p

Hope this helps! ;)

Thanks for the help! I'll be buying from someone who lives nearby and we will pick up the dragon ourselves. I can't wait, but it's still going to be a few months before he has any available.

I've got one of each, and I really don't see any difference in how they interact with anything.

They're both still juvenile, but they seem to be following the same maturation process
