male digging?

for the past two days, my 8 month male has been digging CONSTANTLY. he has also mysteriously switched sleeping places, and instead of sleeping in his hide he's been sleeping behind it which he has NEVER done.

he's on shelf liner, and has been most of his life. yesterday he woke me up in the middle of the night from digging furiously. not just with his front legs, but his back legs as well. he mostly goes over to his poop spot, and starts digging at the paper towel. i replaced the paper towel just to see if he would stop, but he doesn't. when i put it back in the right place, he just goes over to it and digs on it again so it moves to the middle of the tank. he does it so much/hard that the paper towel is a little shredded.

then he just kind of sits there and stares off into space and goes and does something else. somtimes he sits under the paper towel and gets all tangeled in it. it's the weirdest thing.

he has never been with a female or anything. does he somehow know it's breeding season? my one female just laid one egg the other day but she's in a different tank. he's also refused food for the past couple days as well..but other than these things he's normal.

We have a male that does that every so often. He will spend a day or two digging constantly then he will stop. We have females in the same room so we always thought maybe his "strange" behavior had to do with him knowing there were ovulating females near.

Same here.

I have two male gecko in the same cage ... for 5 years ... And since a week or two they are starting to fight and one of the two is afraid of the other ... Both start to wave their tale and the older one (maybe two month older) jump on the other ... Maybe to scare him so the other one start to run away. The older one is acting like your (always digging since a day or two). My female is in another cage but in the same room .... Is it mating season or what? The older one is not always attacking the younger but he look very very afraid(younger) ... I'm starting to freak a bit about this behavior :(

Is there anything I can do ? I move away their cage from the female ... But this "tale waving" is freaking me out ... I'm afraid to fight hard and that I found (the younger) injured or something ......

Thanks for any tips! It's appreciate !!

cyndi0502 what your describing is typical mature male behavior. He's looking for a mate. Totally normal.:D

SpOuK-3- Keeping two males together is never a good idea. They're genetically geared to fight for the right to breed, and they will die for the right to. The tail waving your seeing is them testing each other. Please separate them before one of them seriously injuries the other or dies!

Is it normal that they are both together since 5 or 6 years and they just started this a couple days ago ? Is the mating season driving them crazy ? They are separate since last night ... So ill need to buy another cage ! Damn 4 cages @ home ...

I'm convinced that males can smell the females ovulating. Some of them can even tip you off to ovulations before you have a chance to catch them. The behavior I notice is that normally recluse males will all of the sudden be out at the edge of cage digging or sitting on top of the hide and stay mostly outside of the hides. There was a male we had to move to a separate room because all he was doing was walking about the tank rubbing his hemi-penal pores all over everything and not eating. It was really annoying because you could hear him climbing all over everything all night long but after we moved him he stopped being restless and resumed eating. We had another male clawing and clawing for about a month and it wasn't until all the females were bred that he stopped. Maybe the females give off different smells when they are ovulating vs. gravid.
