Well most of you probably see me complaining about my female not ovulating. They are in the same cage and when in the humid hide don't really do anything. 10 min. ago i was dropping mealies in front of my female and having her eat them. My male is curious but and so cute but is a little meanie head/scaredy cat. Anyway, They were both out of the humid hide and the male didnt wiggle his tail, he usually doesnt. except the first time they ever met last year and this year (only for like 2 sec. this year). Any way he got up behind my female and kind of tried to bite towards the bottom of her neck (interested way, not mean). But no go, my female waved her tail like 2 times back and forth then walked away.. he followed and touched her tail with his nose and then she crawled away, so i picked her up and put her head by the whole of the humid hide so she could go back in. (i didnt want any injuries). I just wanted to share and complain a little more :) thanks for reading.

This frustrates me just as much as it does you because you are the very first friend that I made on this forum.. I wish I could help you!! But at least the male is starting to make more advances, perhaps the female will give in soon! I really wish you the best of luck with this female ;)

A cool down needs to last at least 4 weeks, a weekend most likely won't help. Separating them may be your best shot. Separate them in separate tanks with a divider or some thing similar so they can't see each other. Keep them like this for 3-4 weeks and then introduce them. I had a female that wasn't interested in the male (mine are all housed separately) the first few times they were put together. After the 3rd time trying I decided to give them a break for 2 weeks. After the 2 week separation they mated.

Give it a try.

Hey David, she will ovulate, just give it time. Is there anyway you can seperate them? If you do, when the female is ovulating, the male will be more interested in her. She will go off of food when she ovulates, so watch for a slow down on the food and keep checking under her tummy in the upper right side for a big redish blur under the skin.

Our female BB is finally ovulating...but the male's not ready yet. *rolls eyes* it's always something. lol.

Good luck and be patient! You're doing a good job with them.

i meant to start the cooldown on the weekend, not just the weekend.. I tried seperating them for 2 1/2 weeks and then putting them together 2 times, i guess i could try again..??

ok now the question about the cool down

1.)i gradually go down about 2-3 degrees a day?
2.)how long and what temp. should the lowest temp be?
3.)should i keep my door closed to make it colder since my room temp. is like 78?
4.)and should i stop feeding them or not feed them very much or will they do that on their own?
5.)right when i get back up to normal temp. should i put them together?
6.)and when bringing the temp. back up i still go 2-3 degrees at a time?

i know its a lot of questions but please answer all of them
thanks so much guys, I don't know what i would do without you's :)

Well what I belive by nibbling on the neck, the male is making movements almost like starting to mate, but by the female waving her tail is telling the male that she is not ready.

Mabey seperate them, I hope this helps.

The female may respond if the male does it again, in a few weeks, she might be ready.

I have never done a cool down, but I'm sure someone will have a personal experience to share ;) for the mean time, here is some info:

To stimulate breeding, leopard geckos should have a 4-6 week period of reduced temperatures. Two weeks prior to a reduction of temperature, leopard geckos should not be fed in order to allow their digestive tracts to clear, however, water should still be provided. The temperature should be slowly lowered over several days to a low of 60-65 degrees. The geckos should be checked a few times a week during this cool down period for any signs of illness. Any gecko exhibiting signs of illness (puffed out throat pouch, gaping mouth etc..) should be immediately removed from hibernation and warmed slowly over a few days to normal temperatures. If the gecko does not improve over a few days of normal temperatures, it should be taken to a qualified herp veterinarian. After the hibernation period, the geckos should be warmed up over a few days to normal maintenance temperatures and food offered. It is important that the female geckos are fed heavily and of good body weight during this period. A few weeks after they have been warmed up, the geckos will begin breeding.

anybody else know about this?

1.)i gradually go down about 2-3 degrees a day? ---- YES

2.)how long and what temp. should the lowest temp be? ---- "4-6 week period @ 60-65 degrees"

3.)should i keep my door closed to make it colder since my room temp. is like 78? ---- IF THAT IS WHAT IT TAKES TO GET THE RIGHT TEMPS

4.)and should i stop feeding them or not feed them very much or will they do that on their own? ---- "Two weeks prior to a reduction of temperature, leopard geckos should not be fed in order to allow their digestive tracts to clear, however, water should still be provided."

I say move the geckos. Even though I don't like the idea of going to sleep with worms in my room out of the cage, I wouldn't like to go to sleep that cold either. If you move the geckos, put them in a place where they get no sunlight(or very little if you can't avoid it) or else they're gonna cook lyk baked chicken.
