Male is licking himself

My male gecko was in introduced to a female. First he grasped her leg and wouldn't let go so I broke them apart and they both went there own way, is this normal mating issues? Does the male get snipy? Also about 10 min later I saw him licking his privates is this normal. Please no jokes as much as you want to.

Yup, totally normal. My new tang male who's first time mating was last month grabbed my female's tail and sat there for literally 5 minutes. Every time she'd try to move he would just shake her tail a little. Finally did the deed though
Just let them go at it. Unless they start to seriously fight and start tearing chunks out of each other, let them try. It may seem violent and hurting them, but that's just how it goes sometimes.

dont separate them if he bites her dont worry it will be fine but when you said he is licking himself all he is doing is getting the "stuff" of so his hemipens will retract into his chambers it is perfitly normal be ready for eggs most likly they bred
