Male Question

Okay, I have a six month old (about 7 1/2 inches) male leo. Ever since he really started showing his sex he has been acting really weird. Like I said in an earlier post, he digs at night. I'll find new holes everywhere but mostly under his hides. He has changed his attitude dramatically, and where he used to be happy to get out of his tank, now he fusses and tosses himself around. He has also started licking himself a lot. Hormones? lol. There are two baby girls (about 4 months old) in a tank near him, but I am pretty sure they would have nothing to do with it. Is this normal behavior? Thanks

BTW, he just started secreting wax from him pores last week.

Maybe he can sense the hormones... I didn't think about that. He can't see the tank, but maybe it is just close enough to smell. I'll go ahead and move the tank and see if that helps. Thanks!

Yes, lets please not start it up again. lol. I have sand now. In my house, tile and most slate would be absolutely freezing at night, more like a fridge. This cage is in the main room of my house and I think anything else except rock, slate, or sand looks really awful, no offense to anyone. He is fed mealies in a bowl(same get out though) If I do happen to feed crickets he goes in my other cage which contains repti-carpet for my two smaller ones in case he would ingest sand. I also watch religiously for any signs of illness.

But never-the-less, I am moving him after this weekend. I just got a large terrarium for him and have several large, flat rocks to use so it will be as close as I can get to these hills: http://www.kreisels.com/tibet94/images/kunlun-shan.jpg

Naughty male geckos!!! lol

Slate, Tile, and any of those will not get that cold with a UTH he would regulate himself as long as you are using a proper thermostat then there shouldn't be a problem.

I use Ceramic tile and I love it. I used to have slate and had no problems with that either. The area not above the UTH does feel pretty cold, but my leo doesn't seem to be bothered at all. She will lay at any area of her tank for long periods of time.

I think if I did use tile, it would have to be the stuff we just put down on our floor... it is actual stone slates and seems to not get as cold as the more slick, shiny tiles/ slates.

Thats what you need. Don't get the slick, shiny tiles. Your leo will be skating all over the place. Until your leo learns a triple lutz, I would try to find tiles as close to rock/stone as you can ;)
