I have 3 or 4 males that are just going nuts. They try to scratch their way through their tubs, or sqeeze their nose out the little gap. They tear up their hides and havent been eating much.
Now I know that they are all sexually mature and ready to go, but can they tell there's females in the room? They are housed in seperate racks and arent right next to each other. Also only one of my females is even ovulating. The rest are too young or just on ready yet. Is this just male behavior this time of year?

It is likely that they can smell the female, but more likely that the males are going crazy over smelling each other if they aren't far enough apart. Males tend to get very irritated/aggrevated when they smell another male. It's even dangerous to move one female from male to male, because the scent exchange will cause the next male to attack her.

Yeah, which was an important lesson for me, because it was something I hadn't realized before! Same thing if you're handling different males.. be sure to wash your hands in between handlings so that one male doesn't scent another and bite you! These types of bites are much different because they are more agressive and actually hurt!
