My Female finally mated 2 days ago now she wont eat, i did however get her to eat a coated waxie but thats it. Will she stop eating the whole time before she lays?

Oh and will her laying box need to be different then her normal moist hide? Should i keep the cave warmer now that she is gonna lay eggs?

lay some suggestions on me please!

lol im just as nervous as when my kids were born lmao.

Lots of variety is key here are a few things that I like when females tend to do this: Wax worms, Silk worms, Horn worms, Phoenix worms, Superworms. I excluded mealworms and crickets because those are the main stampled diets.

Well thanks but that wasnt what i was asking.

1. Will a female eat very little between mating and laying?
2. Will her current moist hide work for laying?
3. Should i keep her moist hide cool still or warmer?

come on people i have had geckos for a while now but im a first time laying female so i need some quick answers!

She weighs 64 grams now but does not seem to want to eat much since mating.

I dont know much about the other stuff, but your moist hide should work if you have a sustatrate in it that she can dig a little bit into.

1. Some females will stop eating between laying. I have a few that do the same, just keep a close eye on her weight.
2. Yes it will work
3. How warm is her hide now? I keep my moist hides about 90F to 92F

Sorry,

lol I just read the title then awnserd off that. Sorry.

some females will stop between laying, keep a very close eye on her weight though.

If your moist hide has any kind of substate she can dig in it will work. I find sometimes the female will lay outside if she can't dig in the moist hide(usually with papertowls)

I like my moist hides to be humid therefore I keept them at the hot end,

Eat or Not to eat

Just pay special attention to her. Some stop eating and lay, lay de, lay.....some lay, eat, lay........some will maintain their weight after loosing 5 to 7 grams.....some will keep dropping weight. Its those that cause concern......Keep trying to tempt. feed especially those. I have one that started at 69 grams and at first she built her weight back up between eggs. Then she stopped, after 4 clutches(8) she is holding at 45 grams and has caused me to hope she is through laying. She lays well in a moist humid hide of Sphagnum peat......Take care. / HJ

We have 2 laying females that we couldn't get to eat. I tried lobster roaches and they both seem to really like those. Merrik laid 2 eggs yesterday and when she came out of the lay box she walked to the front of her tank and kept looking up ayt me until I gave her some roaches. She is funny. She kind of looks at me like ok, labor is over.....feed me!!!! Best wishes with your girl.

Well she has not ate in 5 days she weighs 62 grams down from 64. I have tried many different food items including "junk" food with no success.

I can tell you she stays over at the warm side of the tank all the time now and does not want to be handled, its been 14 days since mating.

Should i start soaking soon?

Hova is ready to go!

Now im very worried, i think a vet trip is in order. No eggs yet but she is digging like crazy the tank is a mess.

She is even digging in her calcium dish but no eggs. She now weighs 59 grams down from 64 grams?

It has been 30 days since mating. Anyone got any ideas?

You are ok still it can take up to 6 weeks even longer to drop a clutch. Sounds like she is getting ready. Give it a few more days. Hopefully she will drop those eggs anyday.

I agree with Stitch here, dont over handle her. That will just create more stress. Leave her be and keep offering food, when she is hungry she will eat. Biggest thing and probablly the hardest is to just let her be.

I hope she lays for you soon. I've had a couple girls stop eating when they ovulate and not eat until after they laid the egss. I've also had a couple that started eating again about a week after mating. If she's digging around a lot, then it sounds like she'll lay soon. I had one lay eggs 1 month to the day after her fist clutch, so it can take awhile. Good luck!

She won't eat as most have said. She will chow down a TON of food after she lays. Make sure the food is dusted with lots of calcium to help with the development of her next clutch. She will eat for about 2-3 days then the eggs will start forming again and she will go off of food. Also, make sure she has a bunch of water too especially after she's done laying. I have watched our females drink a bunch of water after clutches.

The moiste hide should be a hide that has some sifted peat moss in it that is very moiste. That's what we use and it works extremely well for us. We use a ziplock container and cut a hole into the lid. Put the lid back on with the moist peat moss inside the hide and voila! You've made a laying box!

Hope that helps some. :)
