Materials for second level

I bought some new furniture the other day and found a small piece of laminate wood (probably a shelf) that did not fit with my set. I figure it got mixed in somehow but it occurred to me that this piece would be perfect for putting a small second level in my leo's tank. I was thinking of getting 4 thick blocks of wood to use as legs so it is nice and sturdy. Does anyone know anything about using laminate wood in a leo's tank. My two concerns are that it might be too slippery or that it might be dangerous with the heat in the tank.
I was going to use styrofoam or tile to make a second story but it seems like such a waste to have this perfectly sized piece of wood and not use it.
Any input it appreciated.
Thanks !

It's not recommended that you put a heat pad in the tank or on wood. The middle of heat pads can get really hot. I have seen it as high as 140F on mine using a temp gun. For the 2nd level, you could heat from above with a red heat lamp if you want to heat it. That's what I do on mine. Also, wood doesn't hold temperature very well, but solid decors and ceramic tiles will.
