mealworms and carrots

I've had my gecko since sunday and he's eaten a few superworms but when I throw in mealworms, he runs up to them, sniffs then walks off. I have a feeder dish that I keep in his tank with mealworms in it with a sliced carrot. He always sniffs them but doesn't eat. Could the smell of carrots be throwing him off?

Sometimes smaller feeders don't interest them enough. If he's already taking on superworms, then you will probably want to feed supers and skip the mealworms.

I slip a superworm in with my mealworms. The super worm is very active and keeps the sleepy mealworms moving. All that movement in the tray excites my geckos.

Desdemona, may I ask what size your leo is? I also just got mine a few days ago, and neither the crickets nor mealies seem to interest him. So I am going to try superworms if he is a big enough size. He is roughly 6 inches
