Hi all,
I'm new here and activated this account to see all the great pictures that you all attach and to ask this question about meal worms.
Most the mealworms that I've purchased have been kept in wheat bran. Even in equestrian facilities where small amounts of wheat bran are commonly included in the diet, breeding mares and young foals are removed from this feed because of the amount of phosphorus it contains. It can also bind other minerals needed for bone development leading to structure abnormalities (I’ve only seen it once, which was more than enough, thank you).
My question was when you purchase mealworms do you leave them on the bran and just depend on calcium supplementation to even things out, do you have a source that doesn’t use bran, or do you change the bran out for something different? I’m just wondering if this worry has any basis, or I’m being a little too retentive (again).
Many Thanks!
