I bought Budo back in January. At the time, I wasn't planning on doing a rescue, but soon after he came home, I realized that he wasn't in good shape. He had a belly full of coccidia and pinworms, and metabolic bone disease. I think part of me knew how much work and money it would be to bring him back, but from the first day I was hooked. I don't think I could've given him up if I'd wanted to.
As time went by, things got worse. There were some days that he wouldn't move. He also lost a lot of weight from the parasites. But he is a tough little survivor, and he made it!
Here he is on January 5th, 2009.
Here he is on September 16th, 2009, lots of love, meds, and vet bills later:
Splashing in the tub (to help strengthen his bones I gave him baths every day. Now he's over the metabolic bone disease, but he loves his baths so much he still gets them every day.)
After baths, he falls asleep with me.
Between hand-feedings, meds, vet trips, baths, and various other chores, Budo has taken up more of my time and money than all of the snakes put together. He is quite a handful, but I am so glad to have him in my life. It has been such a joy to watch him slowly but surely recover from the lethargic, neglected bag of bones I brought home in January to the energetic, loving sweetheart that is now fast asleep inside my sweater.
