Well I saw the Toothless gecko drawing and couldn't resist the urge to draw Merlin. I've tried before but have not been happy with the results. This is the best one so far that I've been able to do, as close to detail as possible. Sorry for the lighting in the drawing, not sure why it came out like that. I used a #2, and took the pic with my iPod Touch.

The first picture is the reference for the drawing. Second is the drawing. Again, sorry for the funky green-ish lighting. Oh well. Maybe once I hook up my scanner and scan it in it will look better >_>

Your Merlin is so adorable! I think I've said before that my dog's name is Merlin. I've only heard of 2 other pets with that name; another dog and your gecko..LOL!

First of all, thank you to everyone for the amazing compliments! That means a lot! For both Merlin and the drawing, rofl.

Hehe well Mom actually is the one that named him. We both picked him out, said he was the cutest of the lot and she named him. She loves to have animals with M names. Don't know why, but it's been like that since I was a baby, surprised my name doesn't have an M in it somewhere, rofl. My sister's does, but yea. We've had Mallory the cat, Maggie the turtle, and Montie the horse. Probably a few others but can't remember. Been awhile, and yea I think having a thread to show off sketches of the geckos would be a great addition to the forum!

All it takes is practice when it comes to drawing, and patience, lots and lots of patience. The detail part is the main pain in the butt for a lot of artists. That and anatomy. Mine isn't so much details being the main problem, mine's more of the anatomy and perspective. Then again, most of my references are from pictures on my iPod Touch or my laptop so the perspective will definitely be different than the original, as well as the fact that I tend to "enlarge" the actual drawing. But I've been drawing since I was itty-bitty ^_^
